  •  A brand new year: Time for making a fresh start.

How many New Year’s Resolutions have you made?

The beginning of a new year of life is an excellent time to evaluate our accomplishments and failures of the past year and to look forward to the clean canvas of the upcoming year. It’s a time for fresh beginnings, new goals and objectives and making plans. The old year is done away with. We shouldn’t dwell on what we did or did not do last year, now is the time to think positively toward the New Year.

  •  Louise Fletcher Tarkington expressed the desire of many who long for new beginnings:

“I wish there were some wonderful place

Called the land of Beginning Again

Where all our mistakes, and all our heartaches,

    And all our selfish griefs

Could be cast like a shabby old coat at the door

And never be put on again.”

  •  One day at the library, a book fell off a shelf and hit a boy named Milo Crinkley on the head.

The title, “Be a Perfect Person in Just Three Days,” was just what he needed.

Wanting more than anything to be perfect, Milo checked the book out and set out to do everything the author, Dr. K. Pinkerson Silverfish, prescribed.

So begins the 1982 children’s book “Be a Perfect Person in Just Three Days” by Stephen Manes.

  • The Stephen Foster Drama Association received a $25,000 grant to present “Shrek the Musical,” and Bardstown is one of the first locations that presented the musical off of its national tour.

The grant came from the Community Project and Development Fund, said Dawn Pryzstal, vice president of tourism expansion and marketing.

“The Stephen Foster Drama Association receives a grant every July, but based on the scope of this project, the board wanted to be supportive of them off-cycle,” she said.

  • With the onset of winter and the possibility that motorists may have to drive in inclement weather, the Kentucky State Police are offering safe driving tips.

The weather in Kentucky is unpredictable and this time of year you never know when to expect black ice, snow, icy roads or a mixture of road conditions. KSP is asking motorists to prepare in advance for the winter driving months ahead.
