  •  LaRue Baptist Church has VBS

    LaRue Baptist Church will have vacation bible school 6-8:30 p.m. through July 13. Friday is Family Fun Night, 6-7:30. Meals provided nightly. Call the church at 358-4673 for more information.

    Mount Tabor VBS

    Mount Tabor Baptist Church will have vacation bible school 6:30-9:30 p.m. through July 13. There will be classes for preschool through sixth grades. Children under 4 must be accompanied by an adult. The theme is SonRise National Park. For more information, call 325-3540.

  •  Two major events are in the works for this month at LaRue County Public Library.

    Kentucky Down Under, the organization in Horse Cave, that features native Australian animals, will make its way to the library at 11 a.m. Friday. They will be bringing a kangaroo, reptiles and birds for participants to see.

  •  Buffalo Baptist yard sale

    Buffalo Baptist Church Youth will have a yard sale beginning at 8 a.m. July 13 and 14 in the church’s fellowship building. All proceeds will benefit the youth ministry. Call 325-3820 for information.

  •  If you are interested in the therapeutic program, riding lessons for your kids or anything else related to Wayne Ridge Farm, contact Jodi Johnson at (270) 320-5928.  

    Jodi Johnson rides horses in her sleep, kicking whoever is in bed with her as if she were nudging her horse. As someone who spends so much time with the animals, it comes as no surprise. 

  •  Rickie and Sharon Ogletree Shoffner of Hodgenville will celebrate their 25th anniversary July 11.

    They were married July 11, 1987, at Radcliff First Assembly of God.

    Sharon is self-employed at Just Hair by Sharon O. and works with the Impact ministry at Lakeside Worship Center, Elizabethtown.

    Rickie is retired from Dow Corning and works as a part-time deputy jailer in transport. He is the men’s ministry director at Lakeside Worship Center, Elizabethtown.

  •  Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Bell and Mr. and Mrs. Dean Cooper announce the engagement and forthcoming wedding of their children, LeeAnn Willian and Andrew Cooper.

    The ceremony will be 7 p.m. July 20, 2012, at My Old Kentucky Home, 501 East Stephen Foster Ave., Bardstown. A reception will follow.

  •  AARP is offering a driver safety program 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. July 20 at the LaRue County Extension Office, 807 Old Elizabethtown Road, Hodgenville. The class includes four hours of instruction time and will have a lunch break, on your own. The class is all indoors and doesn’t involve a road test or a written test.

    Cost is $12 for AARP members and $14 for non-members. To register, call the Extension Office at 358-3401. Payment is requested by check-only at the class, made out to AARP. Please bring your driver’s license and AARP card.
