  • LaRue County FFA members won two state FFA contests last week and were selected as national finalists in two proficiency areas.

    The Food Science and Technology team will participate in the National FFA Food Science and Technology Career Development Event during the 83rd National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Ind., Oct. 20-23 after winning the state contest at Morehead State University on July 26. Members of the team are Nathan Atwell, Brittney Corbin, Ben Tucker and Caleb Whelan.

  • Cooking Club meets

    The 4-H Cooking Club will meet 3:30 p.m. Aug. 30 at the Extension Service office. The 4-H Cooking Club is open to LaRue County youth with an interest in learning basic cooking skills. For more information, call the Extension Service at 358-3401.

  • Hosparus benefit

    Hardin County residents Andy Gani and Mattias Lambert, will host a rock concert and backyard barbecue to benefit Hosparus 7 p.m.-midnight Aug. 28 at 223 E. Nalls Road, Elizabethtown. Mattias and other members of “Two Feet High” will perform. Admission is $5 at the door. Food vendors will be on site to sell concessions. For more information, call 270-307-2917. Proceeds will benefit Central Kentucky hospice patients and their families.

    Freedoms Way Assembly of God will hold revival 7 p.m. Aug. 27-28. Service will be 11 a.m. on Aug. 29. Krista Hampton will speak. For more information call John Lear at 270-737-9700.

  • Horse show fundraiser

    A benefit horse show for Dale “Lightning” Turner will be Aug. 28 at American Legion Park, Greensburg. Cornhole tournament begins at 1 p.m.; mule hitch 2 p.m.; auction 5 p.m.; 21-class horse show 7 p.m. Admission is $5 at gate.

  • How do you avoid arguments with others? James 4:1 says, “They come from your desires that battle within you.” When my wants conflict with your wants the sparks fly.

    In James 4:1-10 he goes into greater detail as to the causes of conflict, but I want to look at his cures for conflict. “God gives grace to the humble” (4:6). “Humble yourselves before God and He will lift you up” (4:10). The cure is humility.

  • The LaRue County 4-H Dog Show was held July 24. Eight club members participated in the show and competed in obedience and agility classes.

    Sarah Lope also participated in a costume class with her dog Spike.

    The agility course included several obstacles that the handlers took the dog through. Included was a tunnel, a platform the dogs walked up and back down, as well a hoop that the dogs jumped through.
