  •   When the weather gets cool, or downright cold as it has over the past few days and as it is expected to be most of next week, I really like to serve my family soup, stew or chili. Most of the recipes I use are easy and economical – both key factors in remaining in my recipe file.

    Since January is National Soup Month and since the weather has been decidedly colder, I thought I’d share some of my favorite soup recipes.

  •  James “Bud” and Shirley Shipp Eastridge of Sonora will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.

    They were married Jan. 26, 1963, at Oak Hill Baptist Church in Sonora.

    They have three children, Sindy Durham and Christy Vertrees, both of Sonora; and Mike Eastridge of Hodgenville; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

    The celebration is 2-5 p.m. Jan. 27, 2013, at First Baptist Sonora MRC Building (former Sonora Elementary School).

    All friends and relatives are invited to attend.

  •  Lura Walsh will celebrate her 100th birthday Jan. 28, 2013.

    The celebration will be held at Sunrise Manor Nursing Home.

    Friends are invited to send a birthday card to Lura Walsh, Sunrise Manor Nursing Home, Room 1103, 717 N. Lincoln Blvd., Hodgenville, KY 42748.

    Mrs. Walsh is a long-time member of Buffalo Baptist Church and the widow of Earl Walsh, who died in 1997.

  •  Hodgenville Rotarian David Harrison welcomed Brandon Booth, regional transport planner for Lincoln Trail Area Development District to Thursday’s meeting. The Rotary Club meets weekly at Paula’s Hot Biscuit.
