  •  Unemployed veterans aged 35 to 60 may qualify for up to 12 months of job training through the new Veterans Retraining Assistance Program.

    VRAP will provide training for programs of education that lead to a high-demand occupation. The program, a joint effort of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and Department of Labor, will start July 1.

  •  Lincoln Trail Career Centers and the Hardin County Chamber of Commerce will host a regional job and career fair 10 a.m.-3 p.m. May 31 at the Pritchard Community Center, 404 South Mulberry Street, US 62, in Elizabethtown.

    Available positions vary and include customer service representatives, police officers, college instructors, health and medical positions, mechanical engineers, package handlers and sales representatives, among others.   •  Barbara and Douglas Bennett of Hodgenville will celebrate their 50th anniversary over the Memorial Day weekend.

    The Bennetts were married June 19, 1962, in Decatur, Ala.

    They moved from northwest Indiana eight years ago to LaRue County. They raised three daughters, Julie Law of Louisville, Donna Bennett of Indianapolis, Ind., and Rebecca Belt of Portage, Ind. They have four grandsons.

    They plan to celebrate with immediate family on the Kentucky Dinner Train.
