    Santa’s Helpers Toy Drive

    Santa’s Helpers are collecting new and used toys and batteries for the 48th annual Santa Run on Dec. 24. Donations are accepted at Santa’s Workshop, 760 Salem Lake Road, Hodgenville – or a volunteer will pick up the items.   • People can rob us of our joy. A lack of unity in the church at Philippi was threatening to rob Paul of his joy. Epaphroditus had evidently brought news to Paul in Rome that two women in the church were not getting along.

    Paul says, “Make my joy complete by being of the same minds” (Philippians 2:2).

    The First Baptist Missionary Society met at the Embassy Suite, Lexington, on Saturday.

    R.B. Smith was admitted to University of Kentucky Care Center, Lexington, last Tuesday. He’s slowly improving, but has a long way to go. Rennie Powell remains a patient at Jewish Hospital, Louisville.

    Marsha Handley, formerly of Hodgenville passed away last Saturday in Louisville. No funeral arrangements have been made at this time.

  • Trunk-or-treat at First Baptist Church

    First Baptist Church, 730 Tonieville Road, Hodgenville, will have trunk-or-treat 5:30-6:30 p.m. Oct. 29. Chili supper follows 6-7 p.m.

  • Union Civil War Fort Duffield will commemorate the beginning of its construction on Nov. 2, 2014. The earthen fortification is located in West Point in northern Hardin County.

    On Sept. 4, 1861, Confederate soldiers, under the command of General Leonidas Polk, occupied Columbus, Kentucky. This action effectively ended Kentucky's neutrality. Two days later U. S. Grant's Federal soldiers took Paducah. The actions of Grant and Polk brought the Civil War into the Commonwealth.

  • Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Jochim and Mr. and Mrs. Michael Tucker are proud to announce the marriage of their children, Amber Jochim and Drew Tucker.

    They will be married on Nov. 1, 2014, at St. Peters United Church of Christ in Lamar, Indiana.

    There will be a reception in their honor 6-8 p.m. Nov. 15, 2014, at First Baptist Church Fellowship Center, 730 Tonieville Road, Hodgenville.

    All friends and relatives are invited to attend.

  • On Nov. 18, 2000, First Baptist Hodgenville began a new era by selecting Rev. Jerry Wilkinson as pastor. He replaced the late Pastor Emeritus, Rev. Donohue Price who had retired due to bad health after being with the church 43 years. Rev. Wilkinson preached his first sermon as pastor on the second Sunday morning in December 2000.
