  • Anxiety and depression touches over 40 million adults in the United States annually, almost 20% of our total population. Recently I got to sit down with Savannah Clemons, a local professional counselor, and talk with her through the subject of depression. Here are some excerpts from our discussion:

  • Jesus shared many parables in His short ministry on earth.  One of the more familiar ones is the parable of talents (Mathew 25:14-30).  A man before leaving on a journey called his slaves in and entrusted to them his possessions.  To one he gave 5 talents (a talent was $1,000 in silver content), to another 2 talents and the third one talent.

  • The 27th annual Rolling Fork Iron Horse Festival is Saturday, September 9 in downtown New Haven.

    The event will feature arts and crafts booths, food, car and truck show, concerts, games, inflatables and more. The inflatables will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the carnival games will be open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

    A local artist art show will take place at the public library from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. A car and truck show will be held throughout the event and a silent auction will take place from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

    It’s August and all of our youngsters have begun the trek back to school. At the LaRue County Public Library, we’re ready to come alongside and support your children in education, as well as fitness. In this article you will find an outline of what is available to you in the coming months for the young people of LaRue County.

    1.Mommy & Me is on the last Monday of each month at 11 a.m. This is an activity-oriented program where mothers will have a separate activity from the children. The theme will vary each month. Sign up each month.

  • One Pot Unstuffed Cabbage Rolls

    1 pound of ground beef

    1/2 chopped onion

    4 cups of chopped cabbage, small head

    2 cans(14.5 oz each) diced tomatoes

    8 oz tomato paste

    1/2 cup beef broth

    1 tbsp brown sugar

    2 tsp salt

    1 tsp pepper

    In large deep skillet or Dutch oven, brown beef and onions, cook 5-7 minutes, drain grease. Add other ingredients and bring to a boil, cover and reduce heat, simmer until cabbage is tender, about 30 minutes.
