  • This past week I had the opportunity to visit the eye doctor for my yearly eye exam. As I entered the office, I easily navigated the corridors that led to the examination room. Upon entering the room, everything changed as I removed my contact lenses. At that moment, my blindness became obvious. I struggled to judge depth and distance of surrounding objects, I could not see any details around me, and what once were obstacles easily avoided became obstacles to fall over.

  • Ovesen Heights Baptist Indoor Yard Sale

    Ovesen Heights Baptist Church will be having an indoor yard sale from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday. All proceeds will go to finance mission trips to Kenya and Oklahoma. Many items, too many to list.

  • Thought of the week: You can have more degrees than a thermometer and still be blind and ignorant.

    I went to Churchhill Downs on Thursday, May 5 with my cousins Rosetta LaFollette and Regina Childress, Karon Wheeler. We had a great time. On Saturday May 7, the LaFollete family got at Golden Corral to celebrate Mother’s Day with Cathy LaFollette, All four children was present, Ken, Dale, Candy and Danny; three grandchildren, Josh, Brittany and Angela and great granddaughter Addie. We had a great visiting with everyone.

  • Happy belated Mother’s Day to all the mothers. I hope those who have your mothers appreciate them. Tell them how much you love them and cherish every moment with them because there will never be a mother that could replace your mother.

  • Plowshares Farm Center for Education and Spirituality will have their third annual Summer Solstice Celebration on Saturday, June 18 from 2 to 10 p.m.

    The celebration will kick-off with stations at 2 p.m. that include needle felting wool with Meade County fiber artist Dina Buckey, spinning wool using a drop spindle with Ken Buckey, woven baskets with Susan Kate, beaded bracelets with Jody Miller, old fashion sack races, a water balloon toss and an egg relay.

  • Judy Cox Community Spirit Award

    Nominations are now being accepted for the 2016 Community Education Service and the Judy Cox Community Spirit Award.

    The LaRue County Community Education (LACE) Service Award honors dedicated service, hard work and tireless effort in educating our community. The Judy Cox Community Spirit Award is an honor given to a local person that demonstrates a true servant’s heart with enthusiasm and a desire to make the community a better place through service.

  • Buffalo Fire and Rescue

    The Buffalo Fire and Rescue have a free 8x10 professional color family portrait for a donation of $25 or more. A representative from Parish Promotions will go door to door in the coverage area with an I.D. to collect and give out receipts. Buffalo Fire and Rescue is asking for $25 or more to help with purchasing turnout gear.
