  • A solid foundation

In any building, the foundation is of utmost importance, because destructive things will begin to happen, causing worry, expense, and possibly even collapse.

Our spiritual lives are no different.  The foundational beliefs we build upon are crucial. Winds and storms will come, to be sure!  Whether or not we will weather what life throws at us will depend upon what has gone into our spiritual foundation.

  • No one is perfect

Have you ever heard someone say: “That is the first mistake I’ve ever made.” They had to be kidding because we all make mistakes.  I’ve made so many that I would be considered an expert.

We may be a little surprised to find people in the Bible making mistakes, but they were human.  Consider some of the mistakes mentioned in the Bible.

  • ‘As much as these’

In John 21:15, John pens these words of Jesus, “Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?” This piercing and intriguing question causes reflection, introspection, and concern. It is ambiguous, yet pointed. It is subtle, yet obvious. “Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?”

  • What will be said of us

    By Paul Richey

Do you remember the Tombstone Pizza commercials? These commercials were often set in the old west and with a situation where someone could be facing death. At a critical moment in the scene, someone asks, “What do you want on your tombstone?” Immediately, the scene flashes to everyone enjoying their tombstone pizza just the way they like it.

  • Empty: Cross, Tomb, Life

The greatest symbol of new life is found in an empty tomb. That first Easter when the women came early to the tomb to anoint the body of Jesus, they found the stone rolled away and the tomb empty. Upon that empty tomb rested the validity of Christianity.

Imagination is a wonderful thing. Out of it we get a fairy that pays money for teeth and a rabbit that lays eggs. But this is all empty celebration. You don’t need a bunny or some eggs to get excited about Easter. Our celebration is in an empty tomb.

  • Overwhelming Evidence

Have you ever watched or followed a trial? What would happen if a judge ignored all of the evidence and just decided the verdict and punishment based on their feelings and opinions? That sort of judge would be unfair and wicked, betraying the standard of justice for which they are purposed.

What does the evidence of our life point to? Are our thoughts, feelings, decisions, and actions more self-focused or God-focused? Unfortunately, the evidence of our lives points to the fact that we all treasure and love ourselves more than we love God.

  • God’s Will: Finding and Doing

Nothing is more important for the believer’s life than knowing and doing God’s will. I want to call our attention to two passages of scripture that should assist in the quest of knowing and doing God’s will for our lives. The passages are Proverbs 3:5-6 and Psalm 37:1-5, 23.
