  • You were saved to serve

Am I useful or useless in this world? As a Christian, am I doing this thing called the Christian life right? Do I make the most of the moments God gives me?  We can do some stupid things in the service of the Lord.

When some people criticized the woman for pouring expensive perfume on his head, Jesus said that she did what she could do. That is all God asks of anyone. Fanny Crosby wrote more than 4,000 hymns. On her tombstone are the words, “She did what she could, Mark 14.”

  • Believers in Christ receive spiritual blessings

Believers in Christ are blessed. Paul says in Ephesians 1:3, “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.”

One blessing the believer has is help for daily living. We all need help in life at various times – with raising our children, with our marriages, with our work and with our relationships. God can help us with these and more if we will seek him and seek his guidance in his word.

  • There is satisfaction in laboring for the Lord

“A man can do nothing better than to eat and drink and find satisfaction in his work” (Ecclesiastes 2:24).

I probably am among those who major on the first part of that verse – eating.   But the writer says that a man needs to find satisfaction in his work. This advice is good for us to remember this Labor Day.

  • Scripture and experience attest: Christianity does work

The question of an unbelieving world is, “Does Christianity work?” When the chips are down and when the pressure mounts will Christianity stand the test?  Does faith in God make a difference?

Scripture and experience says – Yes! Paul saw Christianity at work in his second imprisonment and he reflects back on these experiences where he saw how God helped him (2 Timothy 4:16-18). The Lord stood with him and strengthened him.  God can help us in the same ways he helped Paul.
