  • It’s safer to be where God leads you

Christmas 2008 is over. The tree may still be up, but it is empty underneath. Family members have returned home. It took weeks to prepare for Christmas, but now it is over. Life seems to have returned to normal, but for some there are the post-Christmas blahs. Depression is a problem for many people.

We hear about Mary and Joseph, the shepherds and wise men leading up to Christmas, but what happened to them after Christmas? Matthew 2:13-23 gives a detailed description.

  • When afraid, trust in God’s promise

“When I am afraid … I will trust the promises of God.” Psalm 56: 3-4

Have you any idea how much it’s costing you to fear things that never happen?

Meteorologists say that a fog capable of covering seven city blocks is made up of only one glass of water, divided into 60 million particles. But when it settles, it can obscure your entire vision. A little fear can do the same thing.

Why do almost half of us suffer from stress-related disorders?

  • One man’s life can make such a difference

One of my favorite Christmas movies is “It’s a Wonderful Life,” in which the main character, George Bailey, wished he had never been born, but with the aid of Clarence, an angel, he is able to see what life in his hometown would have been like had he not lived. George Bailey realized his life did matter to many people and concluded that his truly was a wonderful life.

  • God’s power works inside us

“Christ in you, the hope of glory.” Colossians 1:27

The virgin birth isn’t just part of the Christmas story. It illustrates how God wants to get to us. In a sense, God’s asking you the same question he asked Mary, “are you willing to let me in?”

  • What are the sounds of Christmas telling us?

The sounds of Christmas come from everywhere – radio, television, the crowds in the stores, the traffic. Commercials tell us we have to buy certain products to have a merry Christmas. With certainty, the sounds will not get any better the closer we get to Christmas Day.

It is possible to go through the motions and never really celebrate Christmas. We need to hear the Christmas sounds because they help us to understand much about life in general and about our personal lives.
