  • Our deeds, words can influence others

Pam Tebow, mother of University of Florida Gator quarterback Tim Tebow, told the story of her son buying Cocoa Krispies.

She recently spoke to a packed crowd at a local church about being a person of influence.

She said her son “Timmy” normally doesn’t eat sweets, but this one time they were at the store together and he put a box of Cocoa Krispies in the shopping cart.

A little boy, a Tebow fan, saw the box of cereal and told his mom, “Tim Tebow eats Cocoa Krispies!” and he wanted some, too.

  • Protection in troubled times

“I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in Him will I trust.” Psalm 91:2

Those who live in the shelter of the most high will find rest in the shadow of the almighty. For he will rescue you from every trap and protect you from the fatal plague. His faithful promises are your armor and protection.

  • A quality needed by all

Endurance is a great quality of life that we need. An athlete endures the physical hardships of a sports contest in order to win the victory.  We must be willing to endure in our individual lives.

Life could be compared to a marathon race. It can only be won by endurance and dependability. As you run the race of life, remember that he who endures to the end will be the real winner.

  • Put Christ at the center of life

The Apostle Paul said, “For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain” (Philippians 1:21). Paul said, “If I live, I will witness; if I die, I will witness; regardless, to be in the center of God’s will means I will lift Jesus up.”

  • Others may not notice, but God does

“If … you give even a cup of cold water to a little child, you will surely be rewarded.” Matthew 10:42

Two simple words, but oh how much they mean; “Thank you.” Has it been a long time since you heard them? You do so much for others now you just want a little appreciation in return. But there doesn’t seem to be any coming.

  • Make belief part of your life story

“This is Your Life” was a television program some years ago hosted by the late Ralph Edwards. The program would have someone as its subject and surprise the person with people and events from their past.

Let’s do a “This is Your Life” segment. If you are a believer in Jesus Christ, let me share briefly some things from the Bible about your life. I would encourage you to pause at this point, find your Bible and read Titus 3:3-8.

  • Church opens Shepherd’s Pie Food Pantry

The Magnolia Cumberland Presbyterian Church women began a food ministry in April. The Shepherd’s Pie Food Pantry, located in the church basement, is supported totally by donations from the women’s group, church members and other local churches. Local farmers and gardeners have also contributed.

The Shepherd’s Pie Food Pantry is open 5-6:30 p.m. Tuesdays.

  • Things you owe your children

“Behold, I and the children whom the Lord hath given me are for signs and for wonders.” Isaiah 8:18

You may not be able to give your children everything you’d like to, but here are four things you owe them:

    First, listen to them.

One boy said, “I feel like a comma. When I talk to my dad he’ll say something. Then when I start to talk again he makes a comma; he doesn’t interrupt me, but when I’m finished he starts right in where he left off. It’s as if I didn’t say anything.”

  • You can change for the better - if you want to

“We should make plans, counting on God to direct us.” Proverbs 16:9

If you want to change your life for the better, take these steps:

    1) Discern what success really is. When others feel good about you, you’re popular. When you feel good about yourself, you’re successful. Your life’s highest calling always will create the highest level of joy within you. That doesn’t mean it’ll be easy or pain free. Every winner in history paid a price, you will too.
