  • Christian Reponsibility, Elected Officials

    By Paul Richey

Over the past several months the nation has prepared itself for the transfer of power between presidents in Washington. This time has been characterized by protest, opposing rhetoric, and various types of conflict. As the new president was sworn in this past week, we still witnessed a nation that is divided and a nation that is at odds with what they hold and think about our new president. In fact, there are probably varying views just in the individuals reading this article.

  • Boredom's Cure

The good Lord never meant for any life to be bored! A famous doctor once said, “After all, the most deadly of human diseases is one which we cannot touch with a knife or save people from with drugs. There is more wretchedness, more torment driving people to folly, to what you parsons call sin, due to boredom, than to anything else.”

  • Who are you?

How would you respond if someone asked you to introduce yourself? If you were honest, how would you write your own obituary? Who do you think you are?

  • Peace is a gift from God

Peace is one of the major concerns of the Bible. In the Bible God is described as the God of peace. Jesus was called the “Prince of peace.” He came to bring “on earth peace, good will toward men.” As He prepared to return to His Heavenly Father, He said, “Peace I leave with you.”

  • Five New Year Opportunities

    By Jonathan Carl
    Guest Columnist

2016 is gone and 2017 is here. It’s hard to believe! What a year we leave behind! What does the year ahead hold? Only the Lord knows. He is in control, no matter how out of control our years may seem to be. Regardless of what the Lord has ahead, we can be intentional in 2017 to not miss the opportunities the Lord has given us.

  • Thoughts for a New Year

Have you ever driven on an unfamiliar road in a very dense fog?  It was not a very enjoyable experience, was it?

You were tense and nervous not knowing what was just a few feet in front of you.

We could compare this experience to where we are today as we have entered a new year.  2017 is cloaked in mystery. We do not know what is out there in the days ahead.  Someone referred to these as “the unopened tomorrows” that only time will reveal.

  • A world without Christ

During the Christmas season we have been singing, “Joy to the World, the Lord has come.”  In John 15:22 we find the words of Jesus, “If I had not come.”  What if Christ had not come?  Have you ever let your mind wander and try to imagine what the world would be like if Jesus Christ had not come?

  • Three Christian traits

    By Paul Richey
    Guest Columnist

As we approach the end of 2016 and launch into 2017, many of us will be making resolutions for the new year. These resolutions will range from losing weight to spending less time with technology and more time with actual people. But one resolution that must ever be present in the life of a believer is to live out a life that is centered on the leading and presence of Christ. The Apostle Paul declares to a young Timothy three important characteristics of a believer in 2 Timothy 2:4-6 in the usage of three illustrations.
