  • TOUCHPOINTS: Rely on God when times get tough

There are days in a person's life when it is very hard to be cheerful.

Every day that we live, we encounter a multitude of changes ... some good, some not so good, some downright disheartening.

When we must endure life-changing personal losses that leave us feeling depressed, rejected and unloved, there is a place we can turn for comfort and assurance. We can turn to our heavenly father who is the same yesterday, today and forever. (Hebrews 13:8)

  • COLUMN: See yourself through God's eyes

God can take a nobody and make a somebody. Gideon in the Old Testament is a classic example of an ordinary person that God uses (Judges 6 and 7).

Gideon went from a farm boy to a national hero and against incredible odds, saved the nation of Israel.

Israel was at a low point spiritually, emotionally, physically, mentally and economically. The Midianites were enemies of the Israelites and 135,000 of them came against Israel.

  • COLUMN: Jesus knew how to handle stress

We live in a stress-filled world and life seems to get pretty complicated at times. How can we cope with daily stress?

Observe the life of Jesus and learn from him how to handle stress.

Jesus was constantly under pressure from which any one of us would cave, but Jesus remained at peace. He never seemed to be in a hurry and always appeared at ease. How did he do it? His life was based on several principles of stress management.

If we follow these principles, we can have less pressure and more peace of mind in our lives.

  • COLUMN: Trust in God - always

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight." (Proverbs 3:5-6)

What an astounding statement. It calls for faith and trust on our part. God enters into a covenant with man.

The favorite verse of scripture of Dwight L. Moody, famous preacher of yesteryear, was Isaiah 12:2: "I will trust and not be afraid."

  • COLUMN: There is no glory in living a postponed life

     Someday.

    Somewhere.

    When I move.

    When I retire.

There are many who do what I call “postponed living.”

Steven Grellet, a French Quaker who lived in New Jersey in the mid 1800s, said, “I shall pass through this world but once and any good that I can do or any kindness that I can show any human being, let me do it now and not defer it – for I shall not pass this way again.”
