Plans for the second annual Mind, Body, Soul ... and Chocolate Women’s Ministry Event are in the final stages. The mini-retreat is 6:30-9 p.m. April 17 at First Baptist Church.

Described as a night designated for the mind, body and soul, the event begins with string music by The Gibson Girls followed by a devotional time with Joan Clagett of Elizabethtown. There will be break out sessions with free manicures or massages, a mission project for Sunrise Manor, and a quiet time to visit with friends. The women’s quartet Joyride will top off the event.

They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary and they shall walk, and not faint. Isaiah 40:31.

Those who hope in the Lord … will soar … like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not faint. Let’s look at each.

Soaring: Birds have three ways of flying; flapping their wings to counteract gravity. This isn’t particularly graceful and it’s a lot of work.

One way to having a right attitude toward God begins with honoring him on the Lord’s day. “On the first day of the week we came together to break bread...” (Acts 20:7). The writer of Hebrews says, “Let us not give up meeting together as some are in the habit of doing ...” (Hebrews 10:25).

Some Christians today give up meeting together, but not for the same reason as the early Christians. No one persecutes us today for getting together. Most of the time our reason is that we have too many irons in the fire.

The same wind that blew in your back on your way to hell, will blow in your face on your way to heaven. After the initial well-being, saved and accepted in the family of Christ, you find yourself assailed by thoughts and forces you thought were no longer part of your life.
