  • COLUMN: Glory to God in the highest: By his grace we are saved

Christmas is all about God coming to earth as a man, so that men might come to God. At Christmas we see what God has done for us in the person of Jesus Christ. Men have attempted to remove God, but he is at the heart of Christmas.

There was a heavenly host with the angel who announced to the shepherds, "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will among men" (Luke 2:14).

  • COLUMN: I don't understand it, but I stand on it

Many years ago someone came up with the phrase, “Jesus is the reason for the season.” I love this phrase. I seriously doubt if there would be any Christmas celebration were it not for the Christ of Christmas.

Since Christmas is about Christ, let us consider who he is, what he did and what we owe him. First, Jesus was God come in the flesh (John 1:14). He was human and divine. The Apostle John says, “In the beginning was the Word, and Word was with God, and the Word was God.  He was with God in the beginning” (1:1-2).

It was a great weekend for the congregation of Lane Lincoln as they celebrated 145 years of service.

It all began Saturday evening with their first Black & White Gala at the LaRue County Fairgrounds. Everyone enjoyed a wonderful time. Sunday morning the anniversary began with Christina Turner, chairperson and JaRay Weathers, co-chairperson.

  • COLUMN: Will Christmas come this year?

The calendar says that Christmas is coming. Many signs point to its approach, but will Christmas come this year? Dec. 25 will arrive, but I fear that Christmas will not come in the hearts of many people.

Granted, the commercial side of Christmas is already here. Billions of dollars were spent the day after Thanksgiving.

The social side of Christmas is here with all the parties and the travel - despite the gasoline prices. Christmas is being celebrated in churches too. The decorations, carols, dramas and music programs tell us the Christmas season is here.

  • Retired preacher pens memoir

Gene Enlow, a longtime Kentucky Baptist pastor with family ties in the Hodgenville area, has penned a memoir  A Legacy of Faith: The Enlow Papers.

Enlow, now retired, shares stories like the night a man burst into his study, threatening to kill him because of the pastor’s opposition to legalizing sales of liquor by the drink. As Enlow pondered what to say, the Holy Spirit prompted him to pray that God help him love this man the same way He did.

  • COLUMN: Use your time wisely

The late Wilbur Chapman gave these words of true wisdom: "The rule that governs my life is this: anything that dims my vision of Christ, or takes away my taste for Bible study, or cramps my prayer life, or makes Christian work difficult, is wrong for me, and I must as a Christian turn away from it."
