  • A man should focus on more than money

A man suffered from intense lower back pain. After a close examination the doctor told the man he had “walleta sciatica.” The man’s large billfold loaded with credit cards and other things was pressing against the sciatic nerve. The doctor told the man he needed to do a “walletectomy.” After removing the bulging wallet from his hip pocket the man’s back pain improved.

  • Always include God in your plans

Americans are a forward-looking people. Many are obsessed with and seek to forecast the future. The Apostle James in 4:13-17 says you can make three mistakes as you look to tomorrow.

One point must be made before we go further – the Bible is not against planning. Proverbs says if I don’t plan, I am a fool. James pictures two men making plans, but their mistake was leaving God out (4:13). It is great to plan as long as you include God.

Planning without prayer is pre sumptuous. All planning should be prefaced with “if the Lord wills” (4:15).

  • Christians can be guilty of playing sinful, deadly games

Some years ago, a book was written entitled, Games Christians Play. These were games played in the name of the Lord. The deadliest game of all was the game of playing God. In this game, Christians judge other people.

Judging others is unchristian. James says we are all part of the same family (4:11) and should not rejoice when a brother stumbles. Satan and slander comes from the same word. We are most like Satan when we slander someone.

  • God’s plan will unfold in judgment

The temple was filled with smoke from the glory of God and from his power, and no one was able to enter the temple till the seven plagues of the seven angels were completed. Revelation 15:1-8

Prelude to the bowl judgments: The tabernacle of testimony is literally “the tent of witness.” It’s the exact word describing the ancient tabernacle in the Greek text of Exodus 40:34-35.

  • Babylon may be a symbol of satanic world system

References for this column include Revelation 14:1-5, The Lamb and the 144,000; and Revelation 14:6-13; The proclamation of three angels.

The first angel flies about the earth preaching the gospel to all men during the last three and a half years of this age. The same preaching we now hear except he will be able to announce the hour of God’s judgment. We can only announce it is coming.

The second angel will fly in the heavens announcing the fall of literal Babylon, which will be destroyed under the seventh vial.

  • Rely on the Scriptures to avoid arguments

How do you avoid arguments with others? James 4:1 says, “They come from your desires that battle within you.” When my wants conflict with your wants the sparks fly.

In James 4:1-10 he goes into greater detail as to the causes of conflict, but I want to look at his cures for conflict. “God gives grace to the humble” (4:6). “Humble yourselves before God and He will lift you up” (4:10). The cure is humility.
