  • Courage was shown that first Christmas

    Have you seen or been a part of an act of courage? It may have been rushing into a burning building to rescue a child or lifting a weight off a pinned individual that would have crushed the life out of them. Courage is seen in many forms all around us daily.

    Courage was present that first Christmas. Although we probably miss it, because we are focusing on Mary and the baby, Joseph certainly displayed courage and we can learn from him valuable life lessons.

  • Holidays can be a sad time

    Christmas can be a difficult time when you’ve lost a loved one. The sounds and sights that once brought joy just reinforce your sense of loss. There’s no magic formula; grief is a process you must walk through, and it takes time.

    Here are some ideas that might help:

    •Keep things in prospective. Christmas is just one day out of 365. You can do anything for 24 hours because God promised that “Your strength will equal your days.” Deuteronomy 33:25.

    Someone said, “One day my husband and I got into an argument and ended up yelling at each other. I retreated to the porch and sat with my head in my hands crying. Our 2 year-old overheard the argument. “I love you Mom,” she said, as she sat beside me and put her arms around me. “I love you too,” I said. She rested her head on my shoulder, hugging me hard. “I wish you could love my Daddy too,” she said.

  • Christ's birth and life is the world's greatest inspiration

    Advent is when we focus our attention upon the experience of God becoming a baby. The Infinite became flesh to live among us and one day die on the cross for the sin of the world. Who can comprehend it? It is the world’s greatest mystery.

    As we approach Christmas, I want to join the writer of Hebrews in challenging us to “look upon Jesus” (Hebrews 12:1-2). There is no one like him. No one comes even close to Jesus.

  • Churches assist Red Cross

    In an effort to offer aid to those affected by disaster, volunteers and Women’s Missionary Union groups recently prepared 300 comfort kits for the American Red Cross.

    “There was a real need for the kits,” said Clara Mae Druen, the Red Cross shelter coordinator in LaRue County. “This is something we give to those who have been affected by a disaster — whether it’s a house fire, a flood or a tornado. It’s an immediate response to an immediate need.”

    What do you think of when you think of Thanksgiving? Is it eating, football, shopping on Black Friday or some other item?

    Thanksgiving is not just food, football and family. For God’s people, every day ought to be Thanksgiving Day.

    Thanksgiving Day is a distinctive holiday. It does not commemorate a battle or anyone’s birthday. It is simply a day set aside to express our gratitude to God.
