  • COLUMN: Take steps toward harmony

God made us to have relationships – with him and with other people. Since the time of Adam and Eve maintaining relationships has been a major struggle. We have to work to keep relationships up to date, because strained relationships cause much unhappiness.

How do we handle conflict and strive for unity? In unity there is tremendous power and potential, but people don’t always get along. Our concern then is in reducing conflict and increasing cooperation.

  • COLUMN: Behold the dangers of 'ditto'

How many times have you heard, “I have said that before.” (Maybe accompanied by, “Do you hear well?”)

Then there is the more disparaging, “I’ve heard that before .…”

Faith community people believe in the power of ditto, too. We have one and three year cycles of repeating valuable scripture passages. Same words – but we are different in some ways each time around?

  • Column: Christ is our calm in the storm

He [Jesus] got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be Still!”  Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.  Mark 4:39

Dark clouds on the horizon signify another line of thunderstorms marching in from the West. The calm before the storm gives no indication of danger, but in a matter of minutes the winds can increase, hail can rain down and fierce lightning can strike.

  • COLUMN: Run the race for Christ

The Apostle Paul ran a race for the Lord Jesus Christ. He explained to the Philippians (3:10-16) some of the things involved in his race.

First, he said, “I must know Him.”

  • COLUMN: You're saved or not – no in-between

I was told recently that I am a conservative concerning scriptures. I have to agree, I am.

The way I perceive things is there is a right way and a wrong way: no in-between. In other words, “You can't straddle a fence.” I believe the scriptures say just what they mean and is God speaking to us through his word.

I believe you are saved or you are not saved. There is no place for “I hope

I am, I believe or I think I am.” You will know.
