  • Rolling Fork Christian Church donates VBS offering to Kosair's

Awareness of childhood cancer is increasing slowly but surely in LaRue County, thanks to Rolling Fork Christian Church in Lyons Station and the family of Ashley Long.

  • COLUMN: Be a good man and a good father

Our thoughts in recent days have dealt with Father’s Day and honoring our fathers. Before you can be a good father, you must be a good man. Thank God for the good men we have today and may their number increase.

  • First Baptist Senior Choir celebrates 102 years

First Baptist Senior Choir celebrated their 102nd anniversary Sunday.

The senior choir was the first choir at First Baptist and after these many years, remain the only active choir at the church.

The group was organized in 1912 by Addie Wheeler, wife of Rev. W.W. Wheeler. She was the first president of the choir. Carrie Bell Williams was the first organist. The members consisted of deacons and their wives. There were not many men in the choir then.

  • COLUMN: Honor your father

This Sunday is Father’s Day and as such it is a very special day for most families in our nation. Fathers may not always be all they ought to be but when Jesus wanted to illustrate the love and nature of God, he wanted us to think of God as a heavenly father.

God’s word commands that we honor our fathers. This means we give them particular attention, special regard and seek to show their value and worth. We are to honor our father every day and not just the third Sunday in June.

  • COLUMN: Beautiful feet carry God's word

How beautiful your sandaled feet, O prince's daughter!  Song of Songs 7:1a

How beautiful ... are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, Your God reigns! Isaiah 52:7

Summertime is the time for sandals and flip-flops. Every year stores are full of cute styles of cool, barely-there shoes to be worn on hot sultry days. I do not indulge in many toeless shoes, however, because I have such ugly feet!

  • COLUMN: Search for hidden treasure in the scriptures

As a child, I can remember my cousin, Jackie, and I would dream of finding buried treasure. We would even dig under trees and rocks in hopes of finding a box of jewels or money.

Needless to say, we were never successful in our quest.

But we all have a treasure trove that we can "dig" into. Proverbs 2:4-5 says if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God.

  • TOUCHPOINTS: Our bodies will be changed at resurrection

What I am about to write may sound morbid to some, but I am speaking from my heart.

When I was a child, and there was a death in the community, someone would ring a bell which was placed on a high post behind the church where my family attended. The bell signaled there was a death and a grave needed to be dug. Men would come with their picks and shovels and begin digging.
