  • COLUMN: Recognize your dominant gift

We all have different gifts … because of the grace God gave us. Romans 12:6

Learn to recognize your dominant gift and build your life around it. Otherwise, you’ll end up living with regret.

David sensed that he was more than a shepherd or a singer. He was a leader-in-the-making. Killing Goliath just gave him a chance to demonstrate it. Had he failed to seize the moment, he’d probably have gone back to tending sheep.

What blinds us to our dominant gifts?

  • COLUMN: Is your conscience expandable?

Your word have I hidden in my heart that I might not sin. Psalm 119:11

Ever hear of a pitcher plant?

It attracts insects with its bright colors. Once inside, the insects lose their footing and slide down a sugarcoated tube into a liquid that drowns them.

Satan does that too. He sugarcoats the way to ruin and before you know it, you’re hooked.

  • God's spirit is love, joy, self-control

“But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control …” (Galatians 5:22). How do we get these character qualities? God does not one day zap us. There is a process.

God has a part and we have a part in the process. In a physical workout you develop or tone the muscles God has given you. Paul urges us to cultivate our spiritual lives. God provides the power.

  • COLUMN: Love God, love your brother

Paul tells the Corinthians to “Test yourselves to see if you are in the faith; examine yourselves” (II Corinthians 13:5). The Bible is very specific in describing what is required to be “in the faith.”

John says that if we really love God there will be four results of this love and it will show if we are in the faith.

  • TOUCHPOINTS: Define Easter

    Easter.

How do you define the word?

As Christians we believe in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ, but it seems as though Easter has started to become a more non-sectarian festival like Halloween or Valentine's Day. It’s not confined to any specific religion.

The idea of an egg-laying rabbit came to the United States in the 1700s.
