  • COLUMN: There are things God will not do

Jeremiah 32:17 says of God, "Nothing is too difficult for you." God created the trees, seas, all that we can see and we say with Jeremiah, there is nothing God cannot do. I believe that. But at the same time I would say there are things that God will not do.

God will not sin. He is pure, holy and righteous. He says in Leviticus 11:44, "I am your God. Be holy, for I am holy." God has never and will never allow sin to enter his life or alter his character.

  • Mount Zion celebrates 200 years of faith and family

Abraham Lincoln was a 5-year-old boy playing on a farm a few miles to the northwest when Mount Zion Separate Baptist Church was constituted in 1814.   James Madison was president of the country and the Battle of New Orleans was still almost a year into the future.
The land on which the church was built, at the northern edge of what is now Hart County (formed in 1819), was at that time part of Hardin County as was LaRue (1843).

  • COLUMN: What if Christ had not risen?

If there had been no resurrection from the dead that would be the worst thing that could happen to any of us. There is no hope without the resurrection.  There would be no hope here and now or any hope there and then. Paul says if there is no resurrection we are of all men most miserable.
