A wise man will hear and increase learning and a man of understanding will attain free counsel. Proverbs 1:5

The principal author of Proverbs as King Solomon who was one of the wisest men who ever lived and one of the richest too.

Solomon collected as well as wrote the proverbs. In I Kings 4:32 we read that he spoke 3,000 proverbs. In Ecclesiastes 1:1 he called himself “the preacher.” As such, he no doubt collected and quoted useful expressions just as a modern preacher might quote a poem or other saying.

 Fire departments blessed on St. Florian’s Day

New Haven and Rolling Fork Fire Departments will observe a service of recognition and blessings at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 10 at the departments’ station, 363 Center Street, New Haven. The two departments provide fire protection and rescue to New Haven, southern Nelson and northern LaRue counties. The mark of true leadership is the ability to serve – not strut.

Although Naaman was the highest-ranking general is Syria, he served under the king. No matter how elevated you become, you must stay accountable. It’s what balances you and keeps you in touch with reality. When you forget how it feels to serve others, you develop a sense of entitlement and become dictatorial, overbearing and downright miserable to be around.

The “cancer rollercoaster” sums up the cancer journey for the patient and loved ones.

One moment you’re on top with good news and hope (treatments are working, cancer’s in remission) only to plunge downward in unexpected twists and turns.

My husband was diagnosed with lymphoma almost four years ago and has undergone multiple chemotherapy treatments and two bone marrow stem cell transplants. It is difficult to not allow cancer to dominate our thoughts.
