  • Following a King

Most of us are familiar with the story of “The Grinch Who Stole Christmas,” but what about the man who tried to kill Christmas?   I’m referring to Herod who hated Christmas more than the Grinch and Scrooge combined, even though he had never heard the word Christmas.

  • Getting Ready For Christ

“Are you ready for Christmas?” This phrase often means, “Do you have all your shopping done?”

It is so easy to walk past the manger and Jesus with our arms filled with gifts. Have we allowed the Savior to be stolen from our Christmas celebration?

  • What Are You Waiting For?

Have you ever made a long trip across country with young children in the car?  What question will they ask you, probably several times before you reach your intended destination?  “Are we there yet?  Are we almost there?”  Waiting for something when you are younger is not easy.

Even when I grew older, married and had children, it was difficult to wait for Christmas morning. There were gifts for the children and I wanted to see their faces when they opened them.

  • Annual psalm of thanksgiving

    Dear God,

It’s that time of year when I sit down to compose my annual psalm of thanksgiving. This will be my 16th year of making public my thanks and gratitude to you for yet another year of your faithfulness to me.

This past year has been difficult in so many ways. At times I’ve felt like a dog’s chew toy, eaten up and slobbered on. I’ve felt pulled and pushed, stretched and torn.

  • Give Thanks

Complaining makes us miserable, while a positive and thankful person is a great witness in this world.

Our light shines for the Lord when we are thankful. The Apostle Paul says in 1 Thessalonians 5:18,”Give thanks in all circumstances for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”  This is a good scripture for us at Thanksgiving.

Let me share three simple thoughts about thanksgiving:  We have it so good, we enjoy it so much and we express it so little.
