  • COLUMN: Let the world know what God has done

Paul urges the Thessalonians to “give thanks in all circumstances for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you” (1 Thessalonians 5:18). He was not saying we should give thanks “for” everything, but we were to be thankful in all circumstances. Everything that happens is not good, but we are to look for things for which to be thankful.

    George W. Smith

Dwight L. Moody, an American evangelist in the 1800s, said about grace, “it is not a little prayer you chant before receiving a meal. It is a way to live.” He continued, “The law tells me how crooked I am. Grace comes along and straightens me out.”

  • TOUCHPOINTS: Don't make promises

We should never make promises. Keeping a promise is the basic foundation for trust in any relationship.

I believe we are all guilty of breaking a promise. Jesus said if you are a person of your word, you shouldn't need to strengthen your promise with a vow. Keeping your promises will establish your reputation as a person of your word.

How many times have we said we would do something, and then not follow through?

  • COLUMN: What's your favorite Bible verse?

There are many, many wonderful scriptures, but if you push me for one favorite, I suppose I would say Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.”

What an outstanding statement. It calls for faith and trust on our part, and then we see that God enters into a covenant with us.

  • Love: More than words

Love is more than words. It is courageous and a serving action. When another person consistently pays attention to our words, feelings and needs, we often develop and express a sense of love for that person.
