  • A Beautiful Garden Home

My wife and I have been able to visit some beautiful gardens. Butchart Gardens in British Columbia would probably be my favorite, but Bellingrath Gardens in Alabama would be a close second. Some of the English gardens are quite different and the Schonbrunn Palace gardens in Vienna are nice.

Recently, I was preparing a message that dealt with Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane and was reading Warren Weirsbe Bible Commentary. Having been able to visit the garden in the 70s made my reading more meaningful. There was a statement made in Luke 21:37 that caught my attention.

  • Not Mere Leaves

A couple of years ago I planted squash in my garden. The squash plant itself grew and majored into a large plant with nice deep greenery. The plants appeared to be healthy and ready to produce a great number of squash. Unfortunately, though the leaves seemed perfect and beautiful, the plants would not produce fruit. As a result, the plants existed for no purpose other than to set off an external appearance.

  • On Mission

On occasion I’ve met people who question the need to go out on mission trips when there is plenty of “need” here at home. How would you respond to such a statement? Why should we be on mission, crossing geographical, linguistic, and cultural boundaries to talk about and show the love of Jesus?

Here are five reasons to be on mission for Jesus:

  • Daily Foot Washing Needed

God is no respector of persons. He can and will use any of us in His service, but to achieve our highest usefulness our lives must be clean.

The Apostle Paul taught this truth through a simple illustration in 2 Timothy 2:20-21 about dishes used for a meal. They were different kinds of dishes, but one thing necessary for their use was they had to be clean (Hebrews 10:22, Matthew 6:17). It is not the size, shape, color, nor what the dish is made of. The most important thing of the dish set before you is it must be clean.

  • Rev. Wilkinson celebrates 17 years at First Baptist Hodgenville

On November 18, 2000, First Baptist Hodgenville called Reverend Jerry Wilkinson as pastor. Coming from the city of Stanford, Kentucky he felt like God led him this way.

Elder Jerry G. Wilkinson is one of six children born to the late Glen Wilkinson and Lovester Wilkinson. He married the former Rosalyn Johnson on September 19, 1981. Elder Wilkinson is the proud father of three children: Jermaine, Nehemiah, and Jerran (Tim) Adams. He also had five grandchildren.

  • The Love of God

The Christian religion is something we should talk about for we have found something wonderful --- God loves us in spite of our sins, Christ died to save us and we have a wonderful Savior. The Psalmist said, “Let the redeemed of the Lord say so” (107:2). Before Jesus ascended back to the Father He said, “Ye shall be witnesses unto me” (Acts 1:11).
