  • TOUCHPOINTS: Built upon the rock

Jesus said, “I will build my church” (ecclesia). And I say also unto thee, that thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”

“Ecclesia” means a called out assembly or congregation; political (Acts 19:39); Christian (Ephesians 1:22,23); or national (Acts 7:38).

God calls the saved out of the world to congregate in worship. This is the church in the world – in it but not of it. Jesus’ church is not synonymous with Christendom (Christians as a whole).

  • COLUMN: Trust in the Lord alone

My favorite scripture apart from John 3:16 is Proverbs 3:5-7. In a world of distrust, with many not living up to their promises, Solomon tells us about the person we can trust.

  • COLUMN: Draw your self-confidence from God

A certain amount of confidence is needed in life. Belief in what you are doing is very important. A good athlete who does not believe in his ability will sit on the bench beside the coach. A public speaker must believe in his message to be effective.

Paul said, “Our competence comes from God” (2 Corinthians 3:4-5). He said that as Christians we are not to “think more highly of yourself than you ought” (Romans 12:3).

  • COLUMN: Let Jesus pilot your ship

Worry and stress. Aren't we all acquainted with those emotions? That is the bad news, but the good news is that we can handle them.

It may surprise you to know that the Bible, which is filled with the creation of the universe, Heaven and Hell, the death and resurrection of Jesus, also speaks of a human emotion - worry.

Jesus said in Matthew 6:31, "Do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?'"

  • Baptists see rise in baptisms, donations

LOUISVILLE – Southern Baptist churches in Kentucky baptized more than 14,000 people last year, a turning point for the state’s largest religious organization that had been in a gradual decline for the past decade.

The state’s 2,400 churches also reported an overall increase in membership, another sign that 2014 may have been a watershed year for the 750,000-member Kentucky Baptist Convention.
