  • Hazles celebrate 60 years of ‘blessings’

    New Year’s Eve, 1954, marked not only the beginning of a new year for Charles “Red” and Phyllis Hazle, but also the start of a new life together as husband and wife.

    “We’ve been blessed,” Phyllis said as she looked back over the 60 years since their wedding. “Our greatest blessing is our three children who live in service to others.”

  • A life of full service

    Most people in Hodgenville are familiar with Rock and Rogers Service Station. The little green building sits on the corner of Lincoln Boulevard and Forrest Avenue. It’s been there for a long time, providing full service gas to customers.

    A part of the business’s foundation is moving on, though. Jimmy Rogers, who has owned at least a portion of the business for the last 38 years, retired at the beginning of the year. All told, Rogers worked at the service station for over 40 years.

  • Sunrise resident celebrates 105th year

    A Hodgenville woman celebrated a very special birthday earlier this month. Dora Taylor turned 105 years old on Jan. 3.

    Taylor has lived in Sunrise Manor for the past couple of years, according to Quality of Life Director Sally Rineker. She drove until she was 95, and has always maintained a measure of independence.

    Hodges Auction Company announces the addition of Sally Terry Ark to their auction team. Sally has 15 years of auction experience, specializing in antique glass, collectibles and furniture. She is a graduate of KCTCS and Nashville Auction School.

    I’m so proud of myself for remembering the early deadline on Friday.

    The drive to work last Thursday wasn’t a fun one at all. It’s just amazing how fast the snow and ice came down in such a short amount of time.

    I’m sorry to see that Shopko is closing. What a shame, we need stores like that here in Hodgenville.

  • BIRTH-Hoffie

    Shayne, Caleb and Michelle Hoffie announce the birth of their sister, Lauryn Anna Hoffie.

    Lauryn Anna was born at 1:43 a.m. on Nov. 8, 2014. She weighed 7 pounds 4 ounces and was 19-inches long at Hardin Memorial Hospital.

    Proud parents are Jerome and Carla Hoffie.

    Maternal grandparents are Joe and Glenda Dohn.

    Paternal grandparents are Bob and Patty Hoffie.

    Maternal great-grandparents are Dixie Pearman and the late John “J.T.” Pearman, and Fred and Nan Dohn.

    In December, 561 students completed their studies and were graduated from University of the Cumberlands.

    Among them were Chase Cruse and Jennie Patterson, both of Upton.
