  • DAR Celebrates 70 years

    Captain Jacob Van Meter Chapter of DAR started the celebration of its 70th anniversary by posing for a group picture at the Brown Pusey House at the December 9, 2016 meeting. It was at the Brown Pusey House on January 10, 1947 that Miss Margaret Patterson became the organizing regent of the chapter with eighteen charter members.

    Thought for the week: If someone treats you badly, just remember that there is something wrong with them, not you. Normal people don’t go around destroying other human beings.

    Sure wish this were going to be last of the cold temperatures and the nasty four-letter word that I am not going to say. It’s just no fun being stuck in the house. Of course, I got lots of knitting done and I have orders for 25 dishcloths, so kept pretty busy in the last four days.

    Judy Chestnut is at Sunrise Manor Nursing Home for rehab, Rex Thompson is in Kensington Manor Care and Rehabilitation Center for rehab and Mildred Dorsey-Thompson had outpatient surgery last Friday at Hardin Memorial Hospital.

    Thought for Today: Always pray to have eyes that see the best in people, a heart that forgives the worst, a mind that forgets the worst and a soul that never loses faith in God.

    Let’s continue in prayer for the families that have lost loved ones due to various acts of violence, injuries, or sickness.

    Project Graduation

    Premiere Jewelry Bunco beginning 6:30 p.m. January 26 in the LaRue Co HS Cafeteria. Cost to play is $10.00. Winners win money to purchase Premiere Jewelry pieces. Proceeds benefit Project Graduation. For more info, contact Rachel Phillips 270-766-7834.

    Peeler Cards are being sold through January 25. Cost is $10.00 per card.  There is $250 worth of savings from local businesses and surrounding counties as well listed on the peeler card. Contact any LCHS graduating senior to purchase one or contact Karen Cooper at 270-304-9212.

    Parkway Peeps are selling bags of peanuts from Texas Roadhouse for $3 each and they are available at Bird on a Wire.
