In the last couple of years, our area has seen a new wellness beverage being marketed here. This type of item would be considered a dietary supplement.
You should remember that the FDA regulates dietary supplements under a different set of regulations than those covering “conventional” foods and drug products. Under the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994, the manufacturer is responsible for ensuring that a dietary supplement is safe before it is marketed.
Louisville’s Farmington Historic Plantation will host a lecture Feb. 6 called “Louisville’s Lincoln: How Local Influences Altered Lincoln’s Presidency and American History.” The lecture will be given by historian Steve Wiser.
The program, which will take place at the Farmington Visitor Center, is $10 per person. Tickets can be purchased in advance by calling 452-9920, or at the door. Coffee and light refreshments will be served.
The Peace Officers Professional Standards Act celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2009. The Act requires standardized, detailed and ongoing training for its officers.
Basic recruits, before they hit the streets, undergo a strict 18-week basic training regimen at one of four Kentucky facilities. Kentucky’s primary training is handled in Richmond. The Kentucky State Police has its own academy as do Lexington and Louisville.

When water freezes, it expands. When water freezes in a pipe and expands enough, the pipe bursts, water escapes and serious damage results. Pipes in attics, crawl spaces and outside walls are all vulnerable to freezing, especially if there are cracks or openings that allow cold outside air to flow across the pipes.
Twelve-year-old Tiffany is waiting for adoption through the Special Needs Adoption Program.
She has very curly blond hair and is of small build, but tall for her age. Tiffany is on target in her classes and is passing all subjects. She has some behavioral struggles with authoritarian figures and coping with frustrations but she is working towards improving those behaviors.
Tiffany has started to express an interest in having an adoptive family although she continues to struggle with the loss of her biological family. She desperately wants a family to love her.
