Dance to the music of the "Moonlight Big Band" at My Old Kentucky Home State Park Rotunda, Bardstown, 7:30-10 p.m. June 27. Pack your picnic basket and lawn chairs and spend an evening under the stars with the sounds of Glenn Miller and Tommy Dorsey. The annual event is a fundraiser sponsored by the Stephen Foster Music Club and proceeds are used to send students to the Stephen Foster Music Camp at Eastern Kentucky University. Tickets are $10 and are available in advance at the Bardstown Visitors Center or from Music Club members.
China Fleischer and Jody Pearman of Hodgenville wish to announce their engagement and upcoming marriage.
The bride to be is the daughter of David and Sheila Fleischer of Cincinnati, Ohio. She earned a master’s degree in elementary education from Indiana University and is employed by Hardin County Schools.
The prospective groom is the son of Joe and Linda Pearman of Hodgenville. He earned a bachelor of science in marketing from Western Kentucky University. He is employed by FIS in Milwaukee, Wis.
Effie Irene Howard Weller will celebrate her 100th birthday May 29, 2011, at Christian Health Center in Bowling Green.
Irene was born June 1, 1911 in Hardin County to G.W. and Effie Howard. She married Logan Weller and moved to the Youngers Creek area to farm. She taught school at the two-room schoolhouse at Dalington and later in Boston. They bought a farm near Colesburg until Logan’s health declined and they moved to a small farm in LaRue County. When Irene became a widow, she bought a condo and moved to Elizabethtown.
The Kentucky Heartland Music Festival's Baby & Little Miss Contest will be held May 21 at the Towne Mall in Elizabethtown. Baby contests are open to boys and girls ages birth to not yet 5 years old. The Little Miss contests are open to girls ages 5-8.

Luminarias are being sold as a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. To purchase a luminaria in memory or in honor of, contact any Relay team member or Beverly Veirs at 358-3210. Luminarias are $5 each; $50 for a torch. Planning is underway for the Lincoln Days Celebration. With the support of the Fiscal Court, the Crosstown -Homemakers will host a reception Sept. 25, during the opening ceremonies and art show, located in the Lincoln Museum Community Room.
The baby contest, Little Abe and Sarah events, and the selection of the best-dressed Pioneer Family, are scheduled for the auditorium at the Civic Center.
The following weekend, Oct. 1-2, the remainder of activities will take place downtown and at Creekfront Park.
Book signing at Library
Lincoln’s Loft Bookstore and the library will be having a book signing 1 p.m. May 7 at the LaRue County Library. Author Julie Kagawa, a fellow Kentuckian, will be present to sign books from her Iron Fae series.
Kentucky Public Retirees
Kentucky Public Retirees, Lincoln Trail Chapter, will meet 11:30 a.m. May 9 at Ryan’s Steakhouse in Elizabethtown. Kevin Hilton, director of volunteer services at Hardin Memorial Hospital, will be the guest speaker.
This growing season, the LaRue County Farmers Market will be on Tuesday and Friday afternoons from 2- 5:30 p.m. The market is held at the Extension Service parking area at 807 Old Elizabethtown Road. Opening day is May 6. The market will continue through the summer until Labor Day weekend.
