The LaRue County Chamber of Commerce annual awards dinner will be held June 23 at First Baptist Church Hodgenville.
The Chamber will present several awards: Outstanding Citizen Award, Outstanding Business or Professional Person, Spirit Award and President's Award. The recipient's of these awards have been selected, but will remain a secret until the awards presentation.
Catherine Spalding, 6, of Hodgenville, donated 9 3/4-inches of her hair to Locks of Love.
Her hair was cut by Ms. Kathy at Country Cuttin'.
The program provides hair pieces to children who suffer loss of hair due to illness.
Abby Sullivan, a 2011 graduate of LaRue County High School, is the winner of the Hodgenville Woman’s Club scholarship.
She will receive $500 for college expenses.
She was active in FFA, Pep Club and Teens against Drugs and a leader in many other school-related activities. During her senior year she was president of FBLA and captain of the cheerleading squad. She also volunteered at the school’s American Red Cross blood drives.
Chynna Michelle Shipp was among 110 students recognized by President Barack Obama for outstanding academic achievement May 24 at John L. Ramsey Middle School.
Shipp, a sixth-grader at the school, received the President's Award for Educational Excellence for earning a 3.5 grade point average her first semester. The award recognizes leaders who have transitioned well from elementary to middle school.
She was among 147 students to receive the United States National Leadership Merit Award for earning a 3.0 GPA their first semester.
