  • Fast facts on women, cholesterol and heart disease

    Did you know that women over age 55 tend to have higher cholesterol levels than men? Elevated blood cholesterol is one of three major risk factors for coronary heart disease. Cigarette smoking and high blood pressure are the other two. All women older than 20 should have their cholesterol checked by their doctor.

    The LaRue County High School Class of 1964 held its 45-year reunion at LaRue County Middle School Oct. 2.

  • New trustees for South Central RTC announced

    South Central Rural Telephone Coop’s annual meeting was held Oct. 1 at the Cave City Convention Center.

    The results of the mail ballot trustee election were announced.

    In District VII (Buffalo and Magnolia Exchanges), candidates were incumbent trustee Joel Dixon and Larry Wayne Lewis with Dixon receiving 360 votes and Lewis 126 votes. 

  • Rotary hosts Living Water speakers

    The Living Waters Guatemala Team was guest speaker at the Hodgenville Rotary Club. They shared stories about their water projects and the difference they are making in the western highlands of Guatemala.

    The team is working on its second annual Living Waters Guatemala Benefit Dinner and Concert to be held Oct. 17 at John Hardin High School with Antsy McClain and the Trailer Park Troubadours.

  • Leadership LaRue class members announced

    The 2009-10 Leadership LaRue County class members were announced last week.

    They are Doug Akin, LG&E; Shelley Brackett, West Point Bank; Deena Bradley, Magnolia Bank; Dr. Tom Davenport, ECTC; Jill Gray, Renaissance Recycling; Scott Miller, Farm Bureau; Amanda Reed, LaRue County Schools; Pam Stephens, Lincoln National Bank; and Darin Williams, Dow Corning.

    The class spent several days at Camp Loucon in Grayson County for team building.

    The 1948 and 1949 graduating classes of Magnolia High School recently held their reunion at Paula’s Hot Biscuit Restaurant.
