  • BIRTH: Currys welcome Elliott Douglas

    Mr. and Mrs. Eric B. Curry of Lexington and formerly of LaRue County, announce the birth of their first child, Elliott Douglas Curry.

    Elliott arrived on Dec. 14, 2010, at 4:06 p.m. at St. Joseph East. He weighed 6 pounds 13 ounces and was 20-inches long.

    Paternal grandparents are Larry and Vicki Curry, formerly of LaRue County. Maternal grandparents are Jimmy and Vivian Peel of Nicholasville.

    Paternal great-grandparent is Bettye Self of Elizabethtown.

  • Enlows celebrate 60 years

    Robert Lewis and Kathleen Enlow of Hodgenville will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary Sunday, Jan. 30.

    They married Jan. 28, 1951 at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

    Kathleen is a retired executive secretary of the Selective Service. Robert is a retired U.S. Customs officer.

    They are members of Hodgenville United Methodist Church. They have three children, Robert, Cindy and Kay and four grandchildren.

    The celebration will take place at their home on Bardstown Road.

  • Lincoln Trail Behavioral Health System opens Military Unit

    When the new Military Unit at Lincoln Trail Behavioral Health System opens Feb. 1, those who serve our country will have a place to call home that meets their needs.
    “I think it’s important for people to know that with the Military Unit in place, we will have a separate unit for military, a separate unit for CD (chemical dependency) patients and a separate psychiatric unit,’’ LTBHS Chief Executive Officer Chuck Webb said. “It’s something that will be better for our military.’’

  • Fantasias welcome twins

    Frank and Deborah Fantasia of Hodgenville announce the birth of twins – a daughter, Rebecca Anne Fantasia and a son, Justin Thomas Fantasia.

    They were born Sept. 14, 2010, at Hardin Memorial Hospital.

    Rebecca Anne weighed 6 pounds 3 ounces and was 19-inches long.

    Justin Thomas weighed 6 pounds 2 ounces and was 19-inches long.

    They are welcomed home by siblings, Rachael, 11; Nicole, 8; and Joseph, 6.

    Maternal grandparents are Gary and Sally Bourgeault of Elizabethtown.

  • Join Small Steps to Health & Wealth

    If you want help with your goals for managing your weight or your money, come and join the Small Steps to Health & Wealth, 10-week program (Jan. 27-March 31). This is sponsored by the Cooperative Extension Service (358-3401) and will be offered in conjunction with the Thursday evening Family Fitness Club physical activity.

    The Family Resource Centers for Hodgenville Elementary School and Abraham Lincoln Elementary School have started a family fitness club this school year that meets two nights a week, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6-7 p.m.

  • Large turnout at Knight fundraiser

    Sonora auctioneer David L. Knight is not lacking for friends.

    An outpouring of support for Knight, who suffered a series of debilitating strokes in September, reaped $20,000 over the weekend during a fundraiser held at Upton Community Center. Paralyzed from the neck down, Knight has been in medical care since suffering the strokes.

    The event included a chili supper and an auction, where a 1930s antique bedroom suite, old coins, TVs and cakes were up for bid. Local businesses also donated items, such as gift certificates.

  • Hardin County Historical Society to meet

    The Hardin County Historical Society will meet 6:30 p.m. Jan. 24 at the State Theater Gallery, 209 West Dixie Ave., Elizabethtown. The buffet dinner will be catered by Back Home.   • ECTC offers "The Man and his Dream"

    Elizabethtown Community and Technical College plans to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. this month with a biographical movie, "The Man and The Dream," followed by discussion. The movie will be shown 3 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 19 in room 112 of the Administration Building. Light refreshments will be served.

    The movie is free and everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend.

  • Birth announcement: Haydon DeWayne Skaggs

    Lauran Skaggs and Joshua Barnes of Mount Sherman announce the birth of a son, Haydon DeWayne Skaggs, on Jan. 3, 2011, at Hardin Memorial Hospital.

    He weighed 7 pounds 12 ounces and was 19 1/2 inches long.

    Maternal grandparents are Latessia Skaggs and Bryant Skaggs. Paternal grandparents are Gary Barnes and Susan Barnes.
