  • COLUMN: Help for caregivers during the holidays

    Caregiving can be stressful, and these stresses can be exacerbated around the holidays as you are faced with added responsibilities and obligations.

    Whether this is your first holiday season as a caregiver or you have been providing care for years, you can do several things to make the holidays easier on you, the person you're caring for and your extended family and friends by following these recommendations:

  • Mac Mather celebrates 100th birthday with South Fork friends

    South Fork Baptist Church honored one of its longtime members Sunday as he celebrates his 100th birthday.

    Madison “Mac” Mather, the church’s oldest member and deacon emeritus, received dozens of cards and a cake comprised of more than 100 Krispy Kreme donuts.

    Pastor Jonathan Carl said the cake symbolized Mather’s love of sweets. A donation of 100 Gideon Bibles symbolized his dedication to church.

    Madison’s son, Ron Mather, a Hodgenville attorney, attended the Sunday service in honor of his father.

  • ENGAGEMENT: Albertson-Morgan

    Kristin Brianna Albertson, of Hodgenville, and Jonathan Cecil Morgan of Hyden, announce their engagement and forthcoming marriage.

    The bride to be is the daughter of Rich and Heather Albertson, and the granddaughter of Randy and Gale Schmittou of Hodgenville, and Thelma Albertson of Texas and the late Richard Albertson Sr.

    The prospective groom is the son of Cecil and Donna Morgan and the grandson of Jonny and Jeanette Baker, and the late Cecil and Bella Morgan, all of Hyden.

  • Fundraisers to assist local businessman planned for weekend

    A trio of fundraisers is planned this weekend for a local man who is recovering from injuries sustained when he fell from a tree stand.

    Louie Payne, who owns Arrowhead Archery & BBQ, was hunting with a friend in Hardin County on Oct. 16. He was cinching a safety strap on the tree stand, when it snapped. He fell about 25-feet, breaking four ribs and vertebrae.

    He was transported to University of Louisville Hospital where he underwent surgery. He has returned home but is traveling daily to Frazier Rehab in Louisville. The therapy will last 12 weeks.

  • Vietnam veteran’s photo sought for Wall

    The LaRue County Herald News is looking for a picture of a U.S. Army veteran who was killed in Vietnam in November 1970. Lonnie Dale Fields, originally from Upton, was killed in the Thua Thien province of Vietnam.

    The Vietnam Veterans Wall of Faces memorial is trying to find a picture of Fields to add to its website and The Education Center at The Wall on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. The Wall of Faces was designed by the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund in 1982 to honor veterans of the war.
