Entry forms and packets are now available for The Nelson County Fair Board open pageants to all residents of Kentucky. These pageants are the Miss Exceptional, Miss Nelson County, Miss Teen and Miss Pre-teen.
Entry forms, along with the contest rules, and coordinators names are available at Colonial Flower Shop, Forrest Avenue, Bardstown or at www.nelsoncofair.com.
In recognition of National Stroke Awareness Month, HealthSouth Lakeview Rehabilitation Hospital, 134 Heartland Drive, Elizabethtown, will host an open house 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. May 30.
There will be free blood pressure and blood sugar screens, stroke education, fall and safety education, technology inservice (equipment used for stroke rehab) and brown bag pharmacy (bring prescriptions and pharmacist will screen for adverse drug interactions).
A light lunch will be provided and door prize awarded.
With spring and summer, the list of chores that you want to do around the house has probably gotten a little longer. After being stuck inside for the winter months you may be glad to know that all of those chores will count as your daily physical activity.

May is National Stroke Awareness Month. A stroke, or cerebrovascular accident, is a life-threatening event in which the arteries of the brain become blocked or rupture, depriving the brain of adequate oxygen. When nerve cells do not receive oxygen, they cannot function and the cells die rapidly.
Consequently, the parts of the body controlled by those nerve cells cannot function either. The effects of stroke are often permanent because dead nerve cells cannot be regenerated.
