  • Heath family holds reunion

    The descendants of Doc and Josephine Heath held their reunion July 9 in the basement of South Fork Baptist Church. Sixty-three attended, including three of their children, Dorothy Cruse, Frankie Bell and Bill Heath.

  • BIRTH: Bales welcome Ella Grace

    Nathan and Amanda Bales are proud to announce the birth of their daughter, Ella Grace Bales. 

    Ella Grace was born at 2:42 a.m. on May 12, 2011, at Norton Hospital.  She weighed 4 pounds 9 ounces and was 17 inches long.

    Maternal grandparents are Beverly Veirs and the late Roy Veirs of Hodgenville. Paternal grandparents are Richard and Rita Bales of Hodgenville.

  • White Hall Historic Site offering ghost tours

    Do you love a good ghost story or a bit of juicy gossip?  White Hall State Historic Site will be hosting special tours as part of the “Scandals and Ghost Stories” for two weekends in July.
     
    The tours will be open the evenings of July 15, 16, 22 and 23 and will be at 8, 9 and 10 p.m. each night. The ticket price is $7. Reservations can be made by calling 859-623-9178.
     

  • FOR YOUR HEALTH: Try these summer staples

    Summer is here. The kids are home from school and convincing them to sit down for even five minutes can sometimes be a struggle. For the most part, hot dogs are the regular lunch because 20 seconds in the microwave is all it takes.  Instead of mystery meat encased in phosphates and who knows what else, try stocking the fridge with a few ready to eat healthy options. With about 20-30 minutes of prep time, you can be prepared with quick and easy healthy foods for the whole week with these summer staples.

  • 'Wizard of Oz' premieres at J. Talbott Amphitheatre, Bardstown

    “The Wizard of Oz,” produced by Stephen Foster Productions and presented by Salt River Electric, will premiere Thursday at the J. Dan Talbott Amphitheatre

    “It is a show that millions of people know and love,” Managing Director Johnny Warren said. “The show will feature the songs that everyone knows and loves.”

    “The Wizard of Oz” was originally a book by L. Frank Baum but the production is based on the 1939 motion picture with Judy Garland and will feature the music originally composed for the film.

    A clothing donation box for Special Olympics has been placed in the parking lot of Smith’s Hardware on Lincoln Farm Road, Hodgenville. Special Olympics provide an arena for athletes with intellectual disabilities.

  • COLUMN: Avoid fake check scams

    Fake check scams, in which consumers are lured into accepting genuine-looking phony checks or money orders and sending cash somewhere in return, come in many forms, but experts at Consumer Federation of America and the National Consumers League say that it’s easy to spot and avoid these scams – if you know what to look for. The most common fake check scams are the sweepstakes/lottery and promotions on how to work-at-home.

  • CLASS: Managing Your Meals

    The program “Managing Your Meals” will be 10-11 a.m. July 15 at the Lincoln Trail District Health Department. The initial class will go over how to follow a meal plan and gather necessary information to develop a meal plan for each individual.
    A follow-up class is 1:30-2:30 p.m. and reviews how each individual is doing with their meal plans and teach a new topic, including sticking to a meal plan, label reading, exercise and eating.

  • Auditions for 'Annie' underway

    The Hardin County Schools Performing Arts Center located in John Hardin High School will hold auditions for a production of Annie.
    All adult roles will audition 6-10 p.m. July 11; girls age 6 and up will audition 6-9 p.m. July 12. Audition will include dancing, singing and acting.
    Rehearsals begin July 19. Performances are Sept. 9-18.
