  • BIRTH: Jamie and Danette welcome Audra Reese

    Jamie and Danette Aubrey Skaggs of Summersville announce the birth of their daughter, Audra Reese Skaggs.

    Audra Reese was born at 6:57 p.m. July 5, 2011, at Hardin Memorial Hospital. She weighted 7 pounds 14 ounces and was 18.5 inches long.

    Grandparents are Will and Diana Aubrey of Summersville. Great-grandmother is Audra Walker of Summersville.

  • ENGAGEMENT: Kristen Dawn Pullin and James Edgar Brothers III

    Mr. and Mrs. Daryl Pullin of Hodgenville wish to announce the engagement and upcoming marriage of their daughter Kristen Dawn Pullin to James “Jim” Edgar Brothers III of Bardstown.

    The prospective groom is the son of Steve and Sandy Fenley of Bardstown and the late James Edgar Brothers Jr.

    A fall wedding is planned. Formal invitations have been sent.

  • Hospice Thrift Shop needs donations

    The Hosparus Thrift Shoppe recently hosted a Back to School Fashion Show at its Helmwood Plaza location. A dozen models ranging in age from 6 to 17 sported the latest styles. With name brands like Tommy Hilfiger and Guess, these threads were cool enough for the most discerning young wardrobe.  
    Moira Taylor, Thrift Shoppe manager, says the Fashion Show boosted sales to more than $700 for the day.
    “We were thrilled with the turnout, donations and sales that day. Our models had a great time as well.”

     Would you like more help in understanding how to select different cuts of meat? Or learn the best ways to prepare meat depending to the type of cut it is? Come to the Meats 101 class at the Extension Office 11 a.m. Aug. 31 at 807 Old Elizabethtown Road.

  • PHOTO: Central Kentucky Art Guild Artist of the Month

    Joyce Lupresto was selected as the Central Kentucky Art Guild Artist of the Month. The theme for July was “Fantasy” and her painting was entitled “New Mexico Fantasy.” The painting is hanging at Cobblers Café in downtown Elizabethtown. The next meeting of the CKAG is 6:30 p.m. Sept. 19 at the Nolin RECC building on Ring Road. Visitors are welcome.

  • Sonora Days set for Aug. 26-28

    The annual Sonora Days Festival will be held Aug. 26-28.
    The festival was moved this year from June to August and in an effort to help deal with the heat, most events will be held in the grassy, more shaded areas near the churches and old elementary school.
    The weekend kicks off Friday evening with country music in front of Cardin’s ProLix.
    Competitors may register 6:30 a.m. Saturday for the 5K/3K walk/run. The event begins at 8 a.m. with lineup at the Sonora First Baptist Church parking lot. Entry fee is $15 or $20 on the day of the festival.

  • LINCOLN DAYS: Elaine Walker, Secretary of State, to be grand marshal for parade

    Kentucky Secretary of State Elaine Nogay Walker is the 2011 grand marshal for the Lincoln Days parade.

    Walker was appointed to her position in January to fill the unexpired term of Secretary of State Trey Grayson. She previously served as the 39th mayor of Bowling Green, being elected to the post in November of 2004. She became the first mayor in the city's history to be elected to two successive terms.

  • MILITARY: Cline earns award at basic training

    Evan Cline, a senior at LaRue County High School, graduated Aug. 4 from basic training in South Carolina and earned the award of Outstanding Soldier of the Cycle. 

    Each platoon of the graduating company nominates one individual to appear before a board of cadre. Nominees are questioned on military subjects and current events. They are also judged on personal appearance and general knowledge. The board selects the one soldier who has outstanding qualities of leadership, competence, and discipline.

    Alexandria Ann House and Joshua Taylor Childress of Hodgenville announce their engagement and forthcoming wedding.

    The bride to be is a 2008 graduate of Central Hardin High School. She is the daughter of Greg House of Elizabethtown and Penny Miller of North Carolina.

    The prospective groom is a 2003 graduate of LaRue County High School and is employed by Peters Electric. He is the son of Tim and Regina Childress of Hodgenville.
