  • Deidra Hutchins earns master's degree

    Deidra Jeffries Hutchins received her master of business degree May 14 from Bellarmine College in Louisville.

    She is the wife of Charles Hutchins and the daughter of James and Phyllis Jeffries, all of Hodgenville.

    She is a 2001 graduate of LaRue County High School.

  • Garrett twins graduate with degrees in criminal justice

    Austin Garrett and Jared Garrett, twin sons of Jerry Garrett and Rochelle Garrett, formerly of Hodgenville, recently graduated from college.

    Austin Garrett earned a bachelors degree in criminal justice with emphasis in police administration and recreation therapy from Eastern Kentucky University May 7.

    Jared Garrett earned a bachelors degree in criminal justice from Kentucky State University on May 14.

  • Bardstown's summer band series kicks off May 27

    The Stephen Foster Music Club of Bardstown has announced it is expanding its Summer Band Concert Series, set to begin May 27, to 15 weekly concerts this year.

    This year's concerts are being underwritten by Edward Jones Financial Services of Bardstown, and is co-sponsored by the Bardstown/Nelson County Parks and Recreation Department. The free concerts will be presented every Friday at 7 p.m. in Bardstown Community Park from May 27 through Sept. 2. In case of rain, concerts will move to the Farmers Market on East Flaget Avenue.

  • FUNDRAISER: Moonlight Big Band to perform at My Old Kentucky Home

    Dance to the music of the "Moonlight Big Band" at My Old Kentucky Home State Park Rotunda, Bardstown, 7:30-10 p.m. June 27. Pack your picnic basket and lawn chairs and spend an evening under the stars with the sounds of Glenn Miller and Tommy Dorsey. The annual event is a fundraiser sponsored by the Stephen Foster Music Club and proceeds are used to send students to the Stephen Foster Music Camp at Eastern Kentucky University. Tickets are $10 and are available in advance at the Bardstown Visitors Center or from Music Club members.

  • ENGAGEMENT: China Fleischer and Jody Pearman

    China Fleischer and Jody Pearman of Hodgenville wish to announce their engagement and upcoming marriage.

    The bride to be is the daughter of David and Sheila Fleischer of Cincinnati, Ohio. She earned a master’s degree in elementary education from Indiana University and is employed by Hardin County Schools.

    The prospective groom is the son of Joe and Linda Pearman of Hodgenville. He earned a bachelor of science in marketing from Western Kentucky University. He is employed by FIS in Milwaukee, Wis.

  • Effie Irene Howard Weller celebrates 100th birthday

    Effie Irene Howard Weller will celebrate her 100th birthday May 29, 2011, at Christian Health Center in Bowling Green.

    Irene was born June 1, 1911 in Hardin County to G.W. and Effie Howard. She married Logan Weller and moved to the Youngers Creek area to farm. She taught school at the two-room schoolhouse at Dalington and later in Boston. They bought a farm near Colesburg until Logan’s health declined and they moved to a small farm in LaRue County. When Irene became a widow, she bought a condo and moved to Elizabethtown.

  • Heartland Music Festival's Baby Contest planned

    The Kentucky Heartland Music Festival's Baby & Little Miss Contest will be held May 21 at the Towne Mall in Elizabethtown. Baby contests are open to boys and girls ages birth to not yet 5 years old. The Little Miss contests are open to girls ages 5-8.
