  • Coy teaches origami during art reception
  • Local DAR recognized, receive several awards

    The Captain Jacob Van Meter Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution met Friday, April 21 at the Brown Pusey House in Elizabethtown. Members from John Hardin, Governor Isaac Shelby, and Louisville Thruston Chapters of the Sons of the American Revolution were welcomed as guests.

    The Central Hardin High School Color Guard presented the colors during the DAR Opening Rituals. LTC Roland Haun spoke about the CHHS JROTC Program. Junior JROTC Student Tabetha Schultz, winner of the DAR Bronze ROTC Medal in 2016, spoke to the group of the benefits of JROTC.

    Our deepest sympathy goes to the family of Charles Lee English who passed away last Tuesday. His funeral was last Friday afternoon at Bennett-Bertram Funeral Home with Reverend Kenny Carter, Sr. officiating. Burial was at the Hubbard Cemetery. Also, our sympathy goes to the family of Donald Thurman who passed away last Wednesday. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time.

  • Junior Ranger Day set for April 22

    As part of National Park Week, the Abraham Lincoln Birthplace in Hodgenville will celebrate Junior Ranger Day on Saturday, April 22, 2017.

    The Junior Ranger program helps kids get involved with the story of Kentucky’s Abraham Lincoln, when he was just ‘Little Abe.’ Every child who completes the program will receive one of the park’s unique Junior Ranger badges!

  • Chain Ring Challenge

    Local cycling enthusiast and supporters kicked off a 24 hour indoor cycling fundraiser “Chain Ring Challenge” on March 25 to raise money for a local non-profit Warm Blessings Soup Kitchen of Elizabethtown.

    During this 24 hour period, teams had at least one person cycling at all times and individual participants biked as many hours as they could. Cycling for 24 continuous hours and with the support of sponsors, participants raised $4,000.

    Lincoln Trail Area Development District Board Meeting

    The Lincoln Trail Area Development District Board of Directors will meet at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday April 19 in the Community Building at the Meade County Fairgrounds located at 878 Hillcrest Dr. in Brandenburg. For more information call 270-769-2393.

  • Plowshares to host mediation event

    Plowshares Farm Center for Education and Spirituality will have a meditation event on Sunday, April 23 from 2 to 4 p.m.

    The event is called “Just Imagine!” and it will feature a communal interfaith walking meditation at Plowshares Farm. According to the news release, those in attendance will join each other in a prayerful walk through the farm, stopping occasionally to “stand in silent reverence of the life surrounding us while sharing dreams and visions of a better world and recommitting our lives to such visions.”

    Thought for the week: Sometimes we can feel lost and uncertain of the future, but no matter where you are right now, just trust that things will get better. Stay strong-you’ve got this.

    Congratulations to Magnolia Bank on receiving 5 star rating. On Good Friday, I went to the Community Good Friday service at the Civic Center. A great program with great fellowship. It was great to see the community and different churches come together to do the program.

    Mitzi Smith Moore continue to slowly improve from home.

    Spring Revival at Sunrise Manor will begin this Wednesday and end Friday. There will be music provided by various singing groups of the surrounding area. Speakers are this Wednesday Reverend Mike Williams, this Thursday Reverend Billy Curle and this Friday Reverend Richard Binkley. Revival starts at 7 p.m. each night. Everyone is welcome to attend.

    April 26 through April 28, Reverend Billy Curle will be the evangelist at Steadfast Baptist Church for their revival. It begins at 7 p.m. each night.
