  • PHOTO: Elvis and Meatloaf named Tribute Group of the Year

    Colonel Perkins and Jesse Perkins AKA Elvis and Meatloaf and Debbie “Dizzy” Ross accept the Tribute Artist Award from Friends of Kentucky Country Music, Hawesville. Besides Elvis and Meatloaf, the brothers portray Hank Williams Jr., John Lennon, Garth Brooks and others. Ross is sound person, back up singer and soloist.

  • ANNIVERSARY: Underwoods celebrate 50 years

    Eugene and Shirley Underwood will celebrate their 50th anniversary Dec. 22, 2011.

    They were married Dec. 22, 1961, by Rev. Otis Skaggs at Corinth Missionary Baptist Church where they have remained members.

    An open house and reception will be 2-4 p.m. Dec. 10 at Corinth Missionary Baptist Church, 12178 Campbellsville Road, Buffalo. The event is hosted by their children, Jeannie Underwood and Cindy Phelps.

    All friends and relatives are invited.

    The couple request no gifts.

  • Jobless rate down in October 2011

    Unemployment rates fell in 99 Kentucky counties – including LaRue County – between October 2010 and October 2011, while 20 county rates increased and one county remained the same, according to the Kentucky Office of Employment and Training, an agency of the Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet.

    LaRue County’s rate was 8.8 percent in October, down from 7.6 percent a year ago. In September, the rate was 7.9 percent.

  • WEDDING: Stephanie Kristen Hornback and Christopher Anthony Slater

    Stephanie Kristen Hornback and Christopher Anthony Slater were married Oct. 21, 2011, at the Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral in Bardstown with the Rev. William Hammer as celebrant.

    The bride is the daughter of Mark and JoAnn Miller of Sonora and the late Rondall Darrell Hornback. She is a graduate of LaRue County High School and Western Kentucky University.

    The groom is the son of Mary Slater of Louisville and the late John Kenneth Slater. He is a graduate of Waggoner High School and the University of Louisville.

  • Bardstown offers Christmas Home Tour

    The Stephen Foster Music Club’s annual “Christmas Home Tour” will be 2-9 p.m.  December 10. Ten locations are on the tour, including historic and modern homes.

    Also included on this year’s tour is “Federal Hill,” better known as “My Old Kentucky Home.” Tickets are $15 and are available at the Tourism Office on the Old Courthouse Square in Bardstown.

  • Two named Road Masters

    Kenneth Slack and William Burd have earned the designation “Roads Master” from the Technology Transfer Program of the Kentucky Transportation Center.

    They join 133 Roads Scholars and 112 Road Masters to have completed the 2011 Kentucky Roads Scholars/Road Masters Training Program.

    They were honored Nov. 9 at Rough River Dam State Resort Park in Falls of Rough.

    Free food thermometers are available to pick up at the LaRue County Extension Office, 807 Old E’town Road, Hodgenville. Also available is an information guide for USDA recommended safe minimum internal temperatures for different types of meat. The guide may be placed on the refrigerator.

    Sunrise Manor Thanksgiving parade
    Sunrise Manor Nursing Home will have a Thanksgiving parade 10 a.m. Nov. 23. The community is invited.
