    Rondal Wright, chairman of the board of directors, presented Sunrise Manor Nursing Home employees with a pin for years of service in August. Linda Skaggs received a pin for 10 years of service, Shannon Riggs 5 years of service and Judy Hensley 3 years of service.

  • South Fork Area Homemakers

    The South Fork Area Homemakers met Sept. 15 at the LaRue County Extension Service office with president Emogene Gardner presiding. Hostesses were Della Thomas and Martha Owen.

    Gardner opened the meeting by having the club read together aloud the Kentucky Homemaker Creed.  Treasurer’s report was given by Della Thomas and secretary’s report by Janice Bowen.

  • Hosparus offers grief counseling retreat

    Hosparus Grief Counseling Center presents Evergreen – A Family Camp Program, Oct. 16-18 at the Loucon Training & Retreat Center near Leitchfield.

    Evergreen is a weekend gathering for families and children ages 6-18 grieving the loss of a family member.

    Through a combination of fun team-building games and grief education, Evergreen helps families learn how to strengthen family bonds and build resilience.

  • Veterans Day parade applications available

    The American Legion Post 87 will sponsor a Veterans Day Parade at 2 p.m. Nov. 8 with a program and reception immediately following the parade at the Hodgenville Civic Center.

    Anyone interested in participating may pick up an application Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. at The LaRue County Herald News office, 40 Shawnee Drive, Hodgenville.

  • Nationwide honors Claudia Gibbs

    Claudia Gibbs has been selected as the September Employee of the Month at Nationwide Uniform.

    She has been employed at Nationwide since January 2006 and is under the supervision of Janice Perkins in the trouser department.

    She will receive a special award for dedication and service.

  • Embree completes basic training

    Navy Seaman Apprentice Joseph C. Embree, son of Rebecca A. and Charles L. Embree of New Haven, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training and was meritoriously promoted to his current rank at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill., according to Hometown News Releases.

    During the eight-week program, Embree completed a variety of training, which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness.

  • Herald News welcomes Skaggs

    Kaitlyn “Kaity” Skaggs has accepted a position as correspondent with The LaRue County Herald News.

    Skaggs, the 17-year-old daughter of Jodie Case and James Skaggs, both of Magnolia, is a student at LaRue County High School, editor of the yearbook and member of the track team, academic team and Pep Club. She enjoys reading and shopping.

    After graduation, she plans to attend Campbellsville University and major in journalism or psychology. She already is taking college credit classes.

  • College classes begin Oct. 19 in Hodgenville

    Campbellsville University Hodgenville is beginning new classes Oct. 19.

    The classes being taught for the second eight weeks are General Psychology 6-10 p.m. on Mondays, and English Composition II 6-10 p.m. Tuesdays.

    Campbellsville University’s Brockman Center in Hodgenville is the home for the classes; however, work is being done on the building and classes currently are being held in the second floor of the police station adjacent to City Hall.

  • Main Street event a big success

    Main Street’s annual dinner and concert included a great meal by the South Fork Homemakers, wonderful entertainment by Water’s Edge and a successful silent auction.

    The evening involved a lot of hard work by Main Street volunteers and board members and brought us a combined profit for tickets and auction of over $1,400, after expenses. That represents a special effort by some people to obtain the donated items.
