  • Sunrise Executive Board meets

    The Sunrise Manor Volunteers Executive Board met Aug. 13.

    The meeting was called to order by president, Rita Smith. Also present were Peggy Edwards, LaDean Self, Tickle Ragland, Kathy Cooper, Emogene Gardner and Obadiah Okeson.

    The May 21 minutes were approved.

    Edwards gave the treasury report, which was approved. Ruth Brown was not present so Smith gave report of seven funerals with 81 volunteers in attendance.

    Ann Easton was not present; no report was given on the number of volunteers at this time.

  • Low turnout at Slayton reunion

    The Slayton reunion was held Sept. 22 at the Senior Citizens Center in Hodgenville. The attendance was low due to illness and a funeral for Anita Wilkins Nevitt.

  • Reunions - October 9, 2013

    The Pottenger-Pottinger reunion is 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Oct. 12 at Rolling Fork Christian Church, 2630 Lyons Station Road, New Haven. Bring enough food for your family plus a little extra. Drinks and paper products will be provided. Bring interesting items, photos or belongings from early days of the fort, Walnut Hill or relatives.   • Sign up for 4-H sewing classes

    A series of four sewing classes will be offered in October and November for beginning sewers. No sewing experience is necessary.  

    The class is open to 4-H age youth, ages 9 to 18. Participants will make a variety of items that can be used as holiday presents. The classes will be taught by Master Clothing Volunteer Judy Greenwell.

    Class size is limited.

    Book signing at library
    Eddie Price will sign copies of his book Widder’s Landing 4 p.m. Oct. 10 at the LaRue County Public Library. His presentation is at 6 p.m. RSVP by calling the library at 270-358-3851.

    Bardstown Craft Beer Festival
    The Bardstown Craft Beer Festival will be 4-8 p.m. Oct. 12 at the Nelson County Farmer’s Market Pavilion on the corner of N. 2nd Street and East Flaget Avenue. Tickets are available at www.bardstowncraftbeerfest.com.

  • Library hosts meet and greet

    The Friends of the LaRue County Public Library hosted a political meet and greet Oct. 3.

    Several local officials and candidates attended the event at the library.

    Lynn Claycomb, president of the FLCPL, said she appreciated Representatives Michael Meredith and Terry Mills for participating in the meet and greet.

    Sarah Graff, assistant director of the library, said the event provided an opportunity for members of the community to meet their legislators and promoted the library as a place for community involvement.

  • Dinky Gowen to perform at State Theater

     Dinky Gowen, a LaRue County illusionist, will perform at The Historic State Theater 7 p.m. Oct. 12.

    The Halloween-themed show will feature some of Houdini’s tricks (upside-down straightjacket escape and milk can water escape), performed live on stage.

    The “ghost” of Houdini will make an appearance.

    Tickets are available at the door or in advance at www.historicstatetheater.org. Tickets are $8 for adults. Children 10 and under, $5.

  • WEDDING:Parrett - Floyd

    Karon Elizabeth Parrett and Albert Lee Floyd, both of Hodgenville, announce their marriage.

    The bride is the daughter of Mary and Phillip Gardner of Elizabethtown.

    The groom is the son of Lindsey Floyd of Hodgenville, and Sue Ellen Tindell of Columbus, Ind.

    The wedding was Oct. 2, 2013, in Elizabethtown.
