    Kristie Allen benefit
    A benefit for the Kristie Allen family will be Oct. 19 at the LaRue County Fairgrounds. Bluegrass Express will perform. Proceeds will go towards Kristie’s burial expenses.

    Christian Church serving meals during car show
    Hodgenville Christian Church Annex will serve food during the Goodtime Cruisers car show 4-7 p.m. Oct. 19. Rain or shine. Chili, vegetable soup, sandwiches, hotdogs and drinks. All proceeds go to the church.

  • Annual cleanup and recycling event is is Saturday

    The annual fall cleanup and recycling event is 9 a.m.-noon Oct. 19 at the LaRue County Maintenance Garage across from LaRue County High School.

    Almost any item that is too large to be picked up by weekly trash service will be accepted, including appliances, scrap metal, old cars, car parts, bulky items, furniture, computers and monitors, fax machines, cell phones and other e-scrap. Vehicle, equipment and appliance batteries will also be accepted at no charge.

  • Boy Scout and Cub Scout troops find new home

    In May the Boy Scouts of America hosted its national annual conference in Grapevine, Texas, where thousands of Scout and Cub Masters flocked to hear reports on the impact BSA had during the 2012-13 year.

    The conference also resulted in an update in the BSA participant acceptance policy, allowing boys with homosexual attributes to continue to participate or join BSA troops on a national scale.

  • Best named director of Lincoln Trail Health Department

    Sara Jo Best is the new director of Lincoln Trail District Health Department, which covers Hardin, Meade, LaRue, Nelson, Washington and Marion Counties.

    She replaces Linda Sims, who retired after 17 years of service.

    Wally and Barbara Sparks of Hodgenville celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary on Oct. 15, 2013.

    The couple married Oct. 15, 1993, at Hodgenville United Methodist Church by Pastor Keith Switzer. They were the last couple to be married in the church on Lincoln Boulevard.

  • ANNIVERSARY - Kirkpatricks celebrate 50 years

    Ronnie and Phyllis Phipps Kirkpatrick of Magnolia celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Oct. 19, 2013.

    The couple married Oct. 19, 1963, in Tennessee.

    They have two children, Scott (Jennifer) Kirkpatrick, and Stacey Kirkpatrick Cecil; and four grandchildren, Ethan Kirkpatrick, Hayley Cecil, Keegan Kirkpatrick and Breea Kirkpatrick.

    They celebrated their anniversary with their children and grandchildren.

  • Rescued broiler finds home with Mauldins

    Like most farm animals, chickens are labeled according to their end purpose.

    A chicken bred for its egg-laying prowess is a “layer.” A chicken bred for plumpness – large drumsticks and breast – is a “broiler.” They grow faster, reaching slaughter weight between two and three months of age. They behave and walk differently – and spend more time lying down than their layer counterparts.
