“Last year there were between 120 and 130 people to show up – not including agency representatives (from local health and wellness centers or businesses). This year we have planned for a turnout of 200,” said Susan Phelps, coordinator of the event.
Phelps said 60 percent of those who attend the event are 65-and-older and on a limited income.
The second half of a “split fair” or “Agriculture Day” will be held Saturday, Aug. 3.
4-Hers will display horticulture and crop exhibits 10 a.m.-noon at the LaRue County Fairgrounds. The 4-H poultry show is at 11 a.m. There are divisions for standard, bantam, waterfowl and other (turkey, guinea, geese).
Anyone from the community who would like to “show off their vegetables or canned goods” also can participate, according to Ann “Snookie” Morrison of the LaRue County Fair Board.
The LaRue County Farm Bureau is hosting an AGstravaganza event on Saturday, Aug. 10. The event is being held in conjunction with the local farm bureau’s annual meeting and is open and free to the public.
