    Justin Scott Ward and Karen Michelle Rice were united in marriage June 29, 2013, at My Old Kentucky Home in Bardstown.

    Karen, the daughter of Glen and Peggy Rice, is a teacher in the LaRue County School System, teaching fourth-grade at Abraham Lincoln Elementary School.

    Justin, the son of Billy Ward and Linda Slayton, is a realtor for Remax Executive Group, Inc.  

    The couple resides in LaRue County.

  • ANNIVERSARY: Royal and Elsie Mays celebrate 50 years

    Royal and Elsie Warren Mays will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Aug. 25, 2013.

    “Roy” and Elsie have two children, Sherry Lovan and her husband Michael of Bowling Green; and Russell Mays and his wife Kimberly of Elizabethtown.

    They have five grandchildren.

    Their children will host a reception in their honor 2-4 p.m. Aug. 25, in the atrium at Severns Valley Baptist Church, 1100 Ring Road, Elizabethtown.

    All friends and family are invited.

  • ‘The Maltese Falcon’ next on Free Movie Night

    A classic mystery is the next installment of Free Movie Night.

    The Maltese Falcon, a 1941 film starring Humphrey Bogart and Mary Astor, will be shown at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Hodgenville Civic Center.

    Bogart plays private detective Sam Spade who is trying to solve the murder of his partner while dealing with three eccentric criminals and their quest for a priceless statuette.

    The movie was directed by John Huston and based on a book by Dashiell Hammett. It is 100 minutes long.

    There is no charge to attend and free popcorn is included.

  • Officer Richardson honored for seat belt enforcement

    The Kentucky Office of Highway Safety honored 140 law enforcement officers from 123 agencies across the Common-wealth for their efforts to increase the use of seat belts and child restraints in motor vehicles.

    The third annual Governor’s Occupant Protection Awards ceremony was held last week at the Marriott Downtown Louisville. Awards were presented to officers with the most occupant protection citations in each agency and division. There are six divisions, broken down by number of officers within the agency, plus a division for Kentucky State Police.
