    Legislative meet and greet
    The LaRue County Public Library will host a legislative meet and greet 1-2 p.m. Oct. 3. Light refreshments will be served.

    Lincoln Days quilt show
    Lincoln Days quilt entries will be taken at Hodgenville Christian Church on Oct. 4. Volunteers are needed to sit with the quilt display on Oct. 5-6. For more information, call Beverly Heath at 358-4820.

  • Board of Health prepares for change

    The LaRue County Board of Health convened Sept. 10 to discuss the budget that was approved July 23.

    Judge/executive Tommy Turner presented the financial statement for 2013-14.

    The budget allotted $196,175 in total revenue with $182,690 in estimated expenses, leaving $13,485 to be set aside for future endeavors. In addition, $12,000 carried over from the previous fiscal year budget into the new year’s budget.

    The BOH has two reserve accounts in CD funds totaling more than $60,000.

    Senior Center bake sale
    The LaRue County Senior Center, 112 N. Walters Ave., Hodgenville, will have a bake sale 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Oct. 4 at the center; and will sell food (bean soup, cornbread, chili, hotdogs, desserts and drinks) Oct. 5 during Lincoln Days.

    Chili supper at Walnut Hill
    Walnut Hill Baptist Church, Upton, will have a chili supper and hayride Sat. Oct. 5. Proceeds will go to the church. For more information, or to make a donation, call Kenny Carter Jr. at 270-537-3409.

  • New events added to Lincoln Days

    An addition to Lincoln Days this year will be an indoor stage presenting insiders’ stories about the history and culture of Hodgenville’s annual festival. Based on the Smithsonian Festival’s annual narrative stage—where visitors get up-close experiences with artists from around the world—Lincoln Days will present local festival participants sharing their stories and experiences about their role in the festival. These oral histories will be presented in the Lincoln Museum Community room on Saturday, Oct. 5.

    Kentucky Public Retirees to meet
    Kentucky Public Retirees, Lincoln Trail Chapter, will meet at noon Oct. 14 at Watermill Restaurant, 803 Mammoth Cave Road, Cave City.

    Senior Citizens music
    The LaRue County Senior Citizens Center, 112 N. Walters Ave., Hodgenville, has music beginning at 6:30 p.m. every Saturday. Musicians and singers are welcome.

    Janie Perkins and Adam Martin announce the birth of a daughter, Madison Brooke Martin.

    Madison Brooke was born at 2:38 p.m. on Aug. 29, 2013, at Hardin Memorial Hospital. She weighed 7 pounds 6.5 ounces and was 19.5 inches long.

    Grandparents are Anna J. Perkins of Mount Sherman, and the late William “Pete” Perkins; Shirley Helm of Hodgenville, and Raymond and Linda Martin of Glendale.

    She was welcomed home by her brothers Austin McClure, and Anthony, Wyatt and Jacob Martin; and a sister, Elizabeth Martin.

    Aven Lee Carter, 4, announces the birth of his baby sister, Ruby Kay Carter.

    Ruby Kay was born at 11:05 a.m. on Aug. 26, 2013, at Hardin Memorial Hospital. She weighed 9 pounds 12 ounces and was 20-inches long.

    Parents are Brett and Ashley Carter of Hodgenville.

    Paternal grandparents are Phillip and Kay Carter of Hodgenville. Maternal grandparents are Terry and Jennifer Gardner of Sonora.

    Maternal great-grandparents are Evan and Martha Hornback of Sonora; John and Bettie Stinson of Magnolia; and Carolyn Gardner of Magnolia.

  • Widder’s Landing author holds book signing and program

    The LaRue County Public Library will host a book signing by Eddie Price, author of Widder’s Landing, on Oct. 10.

    Widder’s Landing is a historic novel about frontier life in Kentucky in the early 1800s, and the state’s role in the War of 1812. It centers around a young gunsmith from Pennsylvania who arrives in Kentucky via flatboat. He falls in love with an outlaw’s wife and learns to make whiskey.
