Special Needs Adoption Program

Twelve-year-old Tiffany is waiting for adoption through the Special Needs Adoption Program.

She has very curly blond hair and is of small build, but tall for her age. Tiffany is on target in her classes and is passing all subjects. She has some behavioral struggles with authoritarian figures and coping with frustrations but she is working towards improving those behaviors.

Tiffany has started to express an interest in having an adoptive family although she continues to struggle with the loss of her biological family. She desperately wants a family to love her.

Letters to lawmakers can make a difference

If you always ignore pleas for letters to contact officials for something you want done – or not done – you are missing a beat. Letters to elected officials do count, even when it’s not what the legislator wants to hear. Enough letters in the mail and the issue and opinions grow with importance.

South Fork Area Homemakers

The South Fork Area Homemakers met Dec. 15 at the LaRue County Extension Office with Emogene Gardner presiding. Hostesses were Ann Flanders and Norma Jean McDonald.

Present were Virginia Allen, Delores Bale, Janice Bowen, Ann Flanders, Emogene Gardner, Amanda Gatewood, Hazel Hodges, Doris Jean Holleran, Norma Jean McDonald, Mary Lou Owen, Billy Shahayda, Della Thomas and Exie Elliott.

Chamber seeks input on youth sports

The LaRue County Chamber of Commerce is seeking your input on the future needs of youth sports in LaRue County.

A meeting will be 6:30-8 p.m. Jan. 19 at the Hodgenville Civic Center.

The general public is invited to meet with representatives of city and county government, high school coaches, youth sports and Parks and Recreation.

Bylaws updated

The Chamber has updated its bylaws to add a youth board member beginning July 1. A student will be selected each year to serve on the board.

Upward Bound begins Jan. 19 at WKU

Veterans Upward Bound at Western Kentucky University will begin spring classes 8:30 a.m. Jan. 19 in Jones-Jaggers Hall.

Veterans who do not have a dishonorable discharge are welcome to join the program to attend these free classes. An application is required before attending and Director Randy Wilson said there are plenty of slots open. Prior participants do not have to reapply.
