  • Perkins Brothers return to State Theater

    Elvis and Meatloaf.com, also known as the Perkins Brothers, will perform 8 p.m. Jan. 9 at the Historic State Theater, 209 W. Dixie Ave., Elizabethtown.

    Brothers Elvis Aron and Colonel and other family members – all LaRue County natives – sing in tribute to Elvis, Meatloaf, Garth Brooks, Johnny Cash, Lynyrd Skynyrd and others. The show lasts about two hours.

    The newly renovated Theater will have 300 additional seats for this show.

  • Woman's Club designs new fundraiser

    The Hodgenville Woman’s Club will not host the Holiday Home Tour this winter due to a lack of participants. However, the club will depend on another fundraiser to assist with community projects and upkeep of its historic clubhouse.

    The club is selling a $5 calendar “A Calendar With Taste,” full of recipes from members and artwork by local artist Phyllis Blakeman. Six local businesses sponsored the calendar.

  • Pamida donations to communities increase

    The Pamida Foundation announces this year’s donations to communities have increased 30 percent. Contributions to local food banks and gift-tree programs total over half a million dollars.

    This year’s contributions to local food banks will be used to help stock shelves with food for families in need this holiday season. In addition, numerous Pamida stores across the Midwest are organizing local food drives to coordinate with the Foundation donations.

The realities of the holiday season often include increased social activity and obligations, along with heightened expectations and anticipation. For many Kentucky families, especially those with a loved one serving in the United States military, this can lead to unhealthy levels of stress. For a military spouse juggling the additional demands of the holidays, community support can be especially important during this time of increased vulnerability due to family separation.

  • Homes and businesses eligible for Main Street facade grant

    Hodgenville Main Street is working to obtain another grant to enable people in Main Street’s service area to get 50 percent reimbursement for work done on their businesses or homes. The offer would apply only to property owners.

    Anyone within the Main Street boundaries is eligible. No historic designation is required. To increase the possibilities of people we serve, Main Street board members voted this month to increase boundaries.

  • Nationwide Uniform honors employees

    Betty Pickerell has been selected as the November Employee of the Month for Nationwide Uniform.

    She has been employed with Nationwide since September 2007 and is under the supervision of Janice Perkins in the trouser department. She will receive a special award for her dedication and service.

    Patsy Stewart has been selected as the December Employee of the Month for Nationwide Uniform.

    She has been employed with Nationwide since January 2002 and is under the supervision of Dawn Burgess in the trouser department.

  • Santa's Helpers looking for help

    Snookie Morrison and Santa’s Helpers are again planning to make Christmas brighter for local children.

    The group – in its 43rd year – is requesting donations of new and used toys that can be refurbished.

    Trees with gift tags are set up at the LaRue County Chamber of Commerce office and Abe’s Coun­try Cooking. Take a tag, buy the toy and bring it back to the tree.

    Toys also may be dropped in the Santa’s Helper box at IGA, Dollar General Store and Lincoln National Bank or at Santa’s Shop, 760 Salem Lake Road, Hodgenville.
