  • PHOTO: ECTC Choristers plan free concert

    The Elizabethtown Community and Technical College Choristers and Concert Band will present their holiday concert 7 p.m. Dec. 8. The concert will take place in the Morrison Gallery of the college. There is no admission charge. The concert will include sacred and secular music for the holiday season.

  • Kentucky Historical Society offers free family history workshop

    The Kentucky Historical Society will host a free Family History Workshop at 10:30 a.m. Dec. 10, at the Thomas D. Clark Center for Kentucky History in downtown Frankfort.

    At this workshop, “Digging Deeper for the Gold: Genealogy 201,” Deborah Lord Campisano will offer advice for determining a research objective and preparing a research strategy for solving family history mysteries. Case study examples will illustrate methods for getting the most from census records and court records including wills, administrations, court minutes, land records and tax records.

  • Pamida Foundation offers assistance during holidays

    Many families and individuals in communities that Pamida serves continue to face economic hardships this holiday season. The Pamida Foundation announces it is once again holding in-store events to help local food banks stock their shelves for those in need.

  • Four homes featured in Woman's Club Holiday Home Tour

    Four beautifully decorated homes will be on Saturday’s Holiday Home Tour sponsored by the Hodgenville Woman’s Club. The annual event begins with a tasting party from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the Woman’s Club building on Lincoln Square in downtown Hodgenville. The home tour follows 2:30-5:30 p.m. 

    Tickets are $10 and will be available at the Woman’s Club the day of the event. Those attending will receive a booklet containing maps, home information and recipes offered at the tasting party.

    Colonel Perkins and Jesse Perkins AKA Elvis and Meatloaf and Debbie “Dizzy” Ross accept the Tribute Artist Award from Friends of Kentucky Country Music, Hawesville. Besides Elvis and Meatloaf, the brothers portray Hank Williams Jr., John Lennon, Garth Brooks and others. Ross is sound person, back up singer and soloist.

  • ANNIVERSARY: Underwoods celebrate 50 years

    Eugene and Shirley Underwood will celebrate their 50th anniversary Dec. 22, 2011.

    They were married Dec. 22, 1961, by Rev. Otis Skaggs at Corinth Missionary Baptist Church where they have remained members.

    An open house and reception will be 2-4 p.m. Dec. 10 at Corinth Missionary Baptist Church, 12178 Campbellsville Road, Buffalo. The event is hosted by their children, Jeannie Underwood and Cindy Phelps.

    All friends and relatives are invited.

    The couple request no gifts.

  • Jobless rate down in October 2011

    Unemployment rates fell in 99 Kentucky counties – including LaRue County – between October 2010 and October 2011, while 20 county rates increased and one county remained the same, according to the Kentucky Office of Employment and Training, an agency of the Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet.

    LaRue County’s rate was 8.8 percent in October, down from 7.6 percent a year ago. In September, the rate was 7.9 percent.
